Can anyone recommend a noise reduction software (plug in for PSelements5)?
Which is easiest to use? Noise Ninja, Neat Image, Noiseware? Anyone use Noiseware? I have heard it is easy and very good, but don't have any experience at all with any of them. |

I've got them all but I turn to Noiseware first. After that, NoiseNinja.

I really like Noise Ninja though I've tried nothing else. It detects the camera settings and adjusts accordingly. Those auto settings are usually fine with 95% of my shots and I do my USM with it in the same step. I shoot heaps at ISO 400 to get a faster shutter speed or more DOF now where as I wouldn't have before. |

Haven't tried Noiseware, but compared Noise Ninja and Neatimage a couple of years back. Went with Noise Ninja because their default setting (where it starts by profiling the image) produced better looking results to me. Neatimage's defaults are too aggressive, producing obvious artifacts (like plastic-looking skin). I'm sure either can produce good results if you spend enough time fiddling with the settings... |

I can't recommend Noiseware Pro enough. I used to use Noise Ninja and have used Neatimage; I prefer Noiseware. At the default setting it is almost perfect every time when only a modest amount of NR is needed ... and fine tuning is very easy. Pre-loaded profiles -- night scene, stronger noise, etc -- are also quite good (little adjustment needed).
Noiseware Pro was used in all of the following. Many dismiss NR apps for making scenes look over softened or even "plasticy" ... you decide. ;-)

Thank you for your imput. I tried the free trial of noiseware and think I'll go with it. The extent of my computer wizardry exists of pressing a button. So far, this seems to do the trick. Eventually, I'll learn to tweak it a bit. |

Here's a review of the noise programs.

Note that Noiseware Pro is also a plugin; that "article" is dated circa 2004, though I'm sure it was available as a plug-in then too. I've been using NP for *at least* the past three years as a plugin.
The latest version -- 4.x -- is hugely improved too, in terms of both interface and ease of use (fine tuning, adjustment range, "learning" capability, etc). I'll generally make a copy of the layer I plan to apply NR to, use Noiseware Pro, then make that layer a 'smart object' (PS CS3) for masking, select application, and ability to modify with permanently effecting the underlying image. (Note that I apply NR universally for images submitted here under Basic Editing rules).
