The receptionist was tidying up a supply cab yessterday and found a wireless doorbell. She plugged in the ringing end in the coat closet and pressed the battery-operated button when I went to get my coat on my way for lunch. Not a bad little prank on me.
She knows my love for pranking, and so gave me the button for my enjoyment. The CEO was there, so he knows about the doorbell. But, the Senior Geologist wasn't in, and a new person is being being trained at the reception desk starting Monday. So I have two targets.
I think the best use would be to start off leaving the bell in the front closet, wait for a quiet time in the office, and ring it once. The Senior Geo is a very curious guy, who doesn't rest until he is confident that he understands something... anything. Maybe move the bell around every once in a while, and continue ringing it once a day until it is found out.
Does anybody have any better suggestions?
Anybody want to start a pool for how long this can continue?

i had a remote control whoopie cushion that i once had an intern put in his back pocket and then walk through a meeting on the way to the printer.
from across the office we heard one of the graphic designers: "oh my gosh did that just come out of your butt?!?!?!"
god i love that thing. it's about time to get it out again. |

How big is it? Could you tuck it inside a copy or fax machine?

Hmm, a good idea. It's about the size of an external flash (Canon580), but a little fatter. The trick is to have it plugged in to an outlet or extension chord.

can you attach it to the underside of someone's desk -- tucked way back against the wall. then, like, everytime their phone rings you can trip it. |

It needs to be plugged in, so it might be more easily found out, especially by this Geo, he's very thourough. I love the waiting for the phone to ring idea. I think that's something that could misdirect and prolong the gag quite a bit! :-D

ROFL!!! That reminds me of an episode of The Office where one guy gave a mint to another guy everytime he rebooted his PC, to condition him to the startep sound, hahaha!
Actually, that's quite ingenioius. As this guy lives for geology, making connections and correlations is his life. I'm sure he'd be all over making the connection between some event in the office and the chime of the doorbell. He'd probably try to induce the ringing of the bell by reproducing whatever event I connect it with.
Also, I'm at a disadvantage as a known prankster. Maybe I should enlist the help of the newbie.

Inside or near a file cabinet? Then ring it anytime the drawers of the cabinet are opened. |

Hide it somewhere in the guys office, then go to his door and ring it til he answers the door! That will freak him out :-) |

The phone rings on its own when someone calls, you should ring it everytime he hangs up.

If you really enjoy pranks, you need one of these. //www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/8c52/
It generates a tone a random intervals. We had half the office flustered for a whole week. It is small, magnetic and can fit just about anywhere. And for $9.99 plus shipping well worth it. Especially fun around computers. |

Lots of cool stuff at that site. Gotta get out my credit card. ;-)
I saw Singing Monkey Balls for $10 at that site. I have some that I bought for $1 Canadian at the dollarama. Markups are funny things, but still some fun looking stuff there. |

One of the RF remote "farting" machines would be more fun.

Do you have a wipeboard or something which you can write, "The word of the day is: photograph" and then whenever someone says the word ring the bell? |

I vote for the word of the day idea, that should be lots of fun all day.

I had one of these too...I taped it to a guys chair while he was out at a meeting. When I noticed he was back he had 3 other coworkers in his office. My supervisor caught me peeking around the corner down to his office and she knew I was up to no good (downfall of being a prankster). I told her to watch as I hit the button. It was so funny, after it went off the whole room went quiet, I hit it again when they started talking and one guy went "DAMN MARK!" LOL. We could barely run back to our office we were laughing so hard. Not 2 minutes later he shows up in my office, drops it on my desk and turns and walks out. It was funny...it's also fun to plant on a baby as it gets passed around a wedding or something, just tuck it down in the outfit and have fun.
Other pranks I've done, I had a water spraying calculator. Looked real but when you pressed the on button it would shoot a nice small stream right at your forehead. I actually got one guy twice with this. He came in and I acted like I couldn't get it to work, so he took it and pressed the button...got ya once. Then when we were talking about it a coworker came by, I called to him and said check out my new calculator...the guy I got once said no don't, and took it from me. He said "look if you press this button..." as he pressed it and got sprayed again..he thought he had the angle right so he wouldn't get wet. lol too funny.
Let's see I also removed one of those small battery powered music box thingies that I had in a Christmas tie (it played jingle bells), and put in under the toilet seat of the womens bathroom. Everytime someone came out they said "I think someone left a cell phone in the bathroom, it kept ringing but I couldn't find it" too funny.
I think my favorite was for my supervisors birthday, I took a bottle of Catch-a-bubble (seen here) and loaded her office with bubbles...and I do mean loaded! We were finding bubbles weeks later. She loved it. |

We have a wireless system at our house. There is a battery in both the chime and the button. |

Can you easily get it into the ceiling? Put it right above his desk, but I wouldn't do it too many times or he'll be pulling panels off.

2007-02-21, 4:44pm: said "Told ya. I think it's coming from next door." (note to self, time to move it to the other end of the office.)

2007-02-22, 1:50pm: said "Yesterday it was coming from over there, today it's coming from over here!" he was standing right next to the map-box, hehe.

2007-02-22, 3:20pm: on his way out the door for something to eat, said "Ya, it's coming from over there now."
