What types of subjects? Do you want 1:1 or even closer? |

I love my Sigma 105mm DG EX for macro's....I also flip my 50mm 1.4/f on the end if I need more than 1:1

I just got a Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro lens. And so far, I love it. It also works well as a portrait lens. |

The best ?
The Pentax-FA* 200mm f4.0 macro has a reputation of being the finest lens Pentax ever produced. Unfortunately is was discontinued early last year and at this time there is no replacement model.
Current models are the Pentax-DFA 100mm f2.8 and the Pentax-DFA 50m f2.8. Bother are very good but the 100mm focal length will give you a little more distance between camera and subject if photographing skittish insects.
There are also options from Tamron and Sigma who offer a number of good macro options. I don't think theres a bad macro lens on the market and it's more a question of what focal length macro lens would suit you best.
