I don't think anything that doesn't include the supporting tabletop in the image is likely to score very well. But I could be wrong; I often am :-)

Edit to say: maybe not as much since Shallow DOF I think will be popular as well and both are "Exclusive".

For the record, Langdon's winning shot in the first "Table Challenge" is the all-time highest scoring image in DPC history, with a resounding 8.6:

Bear, you're right to speculate that. Most people dont pay attention to the challenge description, which is a pity at times. I mean, 200 submissions showing a table-top might be a little sickening to look at after the 1st 50! LOL! The challenge description says, "Relive our 2nd ever challenge by taking your camera, place it on a table-top of any sort, and shoot away. The idea is to get a photograph from an alternate perspective not normally viewed. Good luck!" |

An astounding score, yes...BUT that was waaaaaay back in 2002, when there were only 20 submissions. That still blows my mind.
It was definitely the best in that challenge.
As for the table, what if it's a mirror table? how do I make it still look like a table if it's also a mirror....? hmmmmmm |

Funny how for an image that scored a whopping 8.6 it only got ONE comment during the voting. I wonder what's the next highest scoring image with just one comment? |

DPC has certainly evolved. The shots of that challenge, with some exceptions, now would be around the fours, IMO. It's a pitty I didn't participate then to have a better average score...LOL.

Don't misunderstand me. Of course it has merit to make that shots five years ago. That given, do you think that shots would be scoring so high today in DPC?
It's not a critic to that photogs or the page, just that the level of this place has bumped a lot (not for my presence, by the way, LOL).

I was looking at the original challenge and thought that many of these shots needed some "basic editing"...and then I saw that it was "Classic Editing"....anybody know/remember what Classic Editing was? |

Heh, heh... 20 entries. Could you imagine a challenge with only 20 entries nowadays?!? Now that would be cool. :)

I wonder how crucial it is to actually have the table top in the frame. I can imagine putting a camera on a table top and tilting it upwards can cause a barrage of DNMC comments. Wouldn't want that two weeks in a row :)

Well, I hope showing an actual table top isn't necessary because mine doesn't. (I'm not in yet but I took the photo today, just have to edit it)
