How can I see the comments people make on pictures (not my own - I can see that) during the voting period? According to the FAQ I'm supposed to see other peoples' comments after I leave my own. Doesn't work...

The quote from the FAQ that's tripping you up I suppose is this:

After voting, you can add more comments on the photograph and see what others said about the photograph as well.

Semantically, I see where you have a problem with it. It should read, "After the voting period has concluded" or something more clear, since that's what is actually meant.
