WHOAAAA! That's gorgeous. Great job. What time did you catch this and where are you located?
I was able to see it tonight, too (around 6:50pm). Unfortunately I was out for my walk, didn't have my camera and there were too many street lights to see it real well. I did see a little of it when I got home but it didn't look as nice.

thanks :)
i'm in east coast canada.. and that was maybe a half hour ago.. the aurora comes and goes.. it'll die down for 10 mins.. then becomes super-bright the next minute.. you have to be patient to get the nice colors..

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I so wish I could see that for real, especially with these sun spots doing such great things right now.
That is absolutely awesome!

That shot is absolutely amazing! It ranks right up there with shots taken by some of the most well-known northern lights photogs!
We managed to see it in Piedmont Virginia tonight - didn't get any pics like that though. Our sky was red with some streaks of white. First time we've ever seen it. |

So what you're saying is that I should be outside instead of in here? Back out I go... ;-)
Again, beautiful job. It's surreal. I'm in New York so I should be able to see something decent. I'll keep checking.
Edit: What exposure did you use?

Amazing shot... I miss seeing that since I moved south. Used to go up to northern Minnesota a lot and would catch these shows. |

Thanks Andre!
Especially since it is overcast here, it's painful to know what I'm missing!

It is suppose to be viewable here in CO tonight also, but it is freakin cold out and overcast. Tried some shots from work 2 nights ago. It was just visible. Couldn't leave the ER and all the lights blew it out. )C:
Keep em coming. I love those shots

I was out not 20 minutes ago and could see faint white streaks....I'm gonna try again a little later.
Oh yeah, Lansing, MI. Look at your right palm, point at the very middle, go down an inch. That's me!

Great capture André. Unfortunately, I was about 20 minutes too late. I was driving home, when I saw them. Ran into my house to get my equipment and headed out to the golf course. Hopefully they'll come out tomorrow, too. I'm 4 hours north of André, so they must have been pretty impressive. A few of mine.

ARRRGGHHH!!! It's been cloudy here in Minnesota for 3 days straight!!! If I could, I would seriously drive somewhere with clear sky but I'd have to go 400 miles in any direction (according to the cloud cover map) to get to it.

Hey, just in case the clouds move away and we happen to see a bit of the aurora, what are your camera settings for those great shots? Exposure? Aperture? Those shots are amazing, Jacko and Refracted! |

excuse my ignorance but do they only appear at a particular time?

I was about 1/2 a mile down the road trick-or-treating with my daughter (yes, we have trick-or-treat on October 30 this year... in order to accommodate high school football playoffs!) and suddenly the Northern Lights appeared! I was in one of those "what do I do now" kind of phases because I had my camera along, but NO TRIPOD!
I actually borrowed a HOE from the guy at the house so I could try to keep the camera still long enough to get a shot... but that didn't work out so well.
They reappeared later when I got home, but with all the street lights I wasn't able to get that good a shot. Hats off to Refracted and Jacko -- those are amazing! Tonight was the first time I have ever seen them in my life -- they just don't appear here in Pennsylvania very often. This was my best, which looks more like someone's house was on fire...
