Okay. I have a crappy camera. Is there any possible way to get better shots with it? Or do I just have to learn from other people? Or just get photoshop?

Eg: How can I get better action shots?

This photo was taken with a coolpix 2500

I would say there was nothing wrong with that camera. :)

My first was a 2.1mp Coolpix. It can take decent pics but it's very limited when it comes to control. If you want to get into photography as even a half-way serious hobby, invest in a better camera...or ask your parents for one for your next birthday/holiday. They are getting cheaper by the day and a really decent camera can be as cheap as $150-200.

I feel like 90% of a shot is based on the set-up, the lighting, the subject, composition, and touching up. The camera is only 10% of a shot. This shot here was done with a small point and shoot camera (I know I was the male model there).

The only thing that was there was me in a suit, a white background, the girl (whose full body was there. And that was it. I wasn't even wearing that hat. The rest was done in photoshop.

Action shots can be tricky when you're dealing with shutter lag and slow focus. One trick though is to pre-focus on a spot where you think the action will be and keep the shutter button half pressed. When the action comes into the designated spot you'll be ready.

Dude, I miss my Coolpix 2500. I've often looked at them on eBay with the idea that I could use it as a purse camera. It's a good little thing if you know how to use it. Examples:

This one won second place in the color division of a real live juried competition. You should have seen the looks on the faces of the other photographers when they realized their pimped out SLRs got punked by a little 2mp point and shoot!

Others from the 2500 that I'm proud of (even if several need re-editing):

Basically, know your camera's limitations and work within them. That camera does excellent macro work, for instance - take advantage of it!
