This was my new year prezzy from myself to myself and I have been playing around with it for a few hours now and all I can say is .....

HOW THE HELL DID I MANAGE WITHOUT ONE SO LONG!!!!!

Anybody else use these type of things for editing? I find the pressure sensitive pen absolutely brilliant for dodging/burning, I decided to buy one after my Mac mouse went wrong and after enquiring about getting a new one it was the same price as getting the Wacom so I opted for the pad and I am so HAPPY I did.

bit strange at first.

We picked up one earlier this year. Our mouse has gone away somewhere I do not know where. We use the pen for evreything = photoediting, web surfing, playing canasta. It is an awesome thing.

I got a $150 gift certificate to Amazon for Xmas and I was thinking about getting one with it/towards it, and you just reminded me and made up my mind to get it (I think). Which size did you get?

Oh yeah, it is amazing. Check out this site for awesome flash games that you can play with your Wacom. It will give you good practice and the games are really cool.

I have the A6 version, it is very convenient size to take around with you and the A5 version is like double the price too. My initial intention was to get the A5 because I had read about it being the largest size you would ever need on some website about editing, but we went shopping and found that the price was very high for the A5 and they only had the A6 version in store so the guy said, "take it home and try it out, if you find its not what you need fetch it back and get the A5 tablet instead and we will do a full refund on the A6 for you".. so i bought it and I personally feel it is good enough for what i do and fits perfectly in my laptop bag and camera bag so I'm going to stick with it..

Well worth the investment, I doubt I'll use a mouse again (except for online gaming)..

IGNITE- Thank you for that link.. Im gonna have a lot of fun playing those.

I have come to photography from a digital art/graphic design background and have one of these... I can't imagine how you guys could do the amazing edits that you do without one of these! I also carry mine in my laptop bag, which is very convenient because if I let someone do anything on my laptop (mostly family), I can pull out the tablet with it's mouse attachment (instead of pen) and they can use that instead of the touchpad, which is nice.

They're just all around good and versatile tool... congratulations!

I had one but the mouse died. I can't buy just a replacement mouse for it, even looked on ebay. I don't like the pen but would love to find a replacement mouse.

which model do you have?

a friend of mine sent me his old A4 Intuos 2 Tablet for xmas as he's just upgraded to an A3 Wide Intuos 3..

i used to use the A6 Intuos, but i've now started using the A4 (lots more control even tho' i use my wrist than my whole arm) so have a spare mouse going :)

Thanks for the input. I was wondering if the 4x5 size would be big enough, I think I'll go for it. Thank you!

I have an older model, the Wacom ET-0405-U

I never use the mouse on mine. It's got too much friction compared to my dual optical mice (one on each side of my keyboard. hehe)

I got the Wacom Graphire4 4x5 tablet just before Christmas and for general use (ie - in place of a mouse) and for photo editing, it's enough work space. If you're a graphic artist and are used to the sweeping hand movements you may want a bigger tablet (goes up in price significantly). You just have to get used to the different dimensions cause move an inch on the tablet and you've already moved about a quarter of the distance on the screen. I got mine for a good deal too at Best Buy. I think original price is like $99, but got mine on sale for about $60 final price. It's definitely a handy tool.

What is the difference between the graphire & intuos?

The Intuos is a better quality tablet. It has more pressure points so you get more sensitivity and it also comes with more button futures. If you can afford an Intuos (I would if I had more money) it would be the better product, but for general use the Graphire works just fine.

As this is my first ever pad I find the pressure points very effective indeed.. I have my dodge/burn set to 50% and the pen does all the work for me.. I LOVE IT.

I do not see a need for more pressure or a larger pad yet, maybe in time I might but for now.... this A6 pad is AWSOME for photo editing and even my son uses it for drawing and doing his manga flash movies too.

I really want to get one. I'm new to photoshop, just bought 5.0. I'm having trouble with my mouse as I can't draw acurate circles or do real fine work.

Then I'd suggest trying the Graphire. You definitely get more precision from the pen/tablet. For me, I knew it wasn't worth it for me to get the more expensive model (Intuos) just yet because I'm just barely getting familiar of using a tablet. And you can always upgrade to the Intuos if you don't like the Graphire. There are other brands that you may want to check out, but Wacom is pretty well known and their higher end tablets are more used by professionals in the graphic arts industry.

The 'quality' is the same overall, just more features. Like Touch Strips. The most important difference is that the Intuos has the ability to detect the tilt of the pen, and you can use that in Photoshop along with the pressure sensitivity.

Well, I did it. Bought the Graphire. Really couldn't pass it up, they had it at Best Buy for $69 because the box had been open. In addition, they gave me an $8 gift card for buying an open box item, so basically I got it for $61. Now I just have to get used to it. From what I've tried so far, I LOVE IT!!! As I get more experienced I'll upgrade to Intuous.

Yayy!!

Depending on your OS, you might wanna download the latest driver for it. The latest one for Graphire4 is Version 4.97-6 dated Sep. 12, 2006 on Wacom.com.
