| Hello everyone. I have been playing with my Canon 350D Rebel XT with the stock lens for almost six months now, and feel like I may be ready to invest in some new "accessories". Can anyone suggest a good/versatile lens that will help me learn more and explore photography further? In doing my own research it's difficult to try to pick an affordable but useful one on my own, so I thought I would try to get any advice I could. Thanks! |

Are you looking for more of a telephoto lens or a wide angle lens? Also, what's your budget?

| Well I live near Yellowstone so a telephoto would be nice for wildlife etc. and my budget is small--complicating things a bit...I would like to stay under $400. |

The one lens that many people seem to recommend in that range is the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO for about $220.

Add the Canon 50mm lens to that -- the cheap one is under $100 and is really sharp, with great bokeh too.

Since a 50mm was mentioned.....the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 would be a nice choice too.

| Just to add to your options in that price range, if you would consider a 28-75, would also consider the older 28-135 IS. Between those two though, I would probably fllow MrEd suggesion of the Tamron. |
