My Grandmother is planning on braving the elements and hopefully going to get me a 2 GB card from Best Buy. I live in Canada, so the best we get is Boxing Day sales, which I will be in the US for this year, thank goodness for the online stores!

I would love to buy the Canon HV10 on black Friday, but alas I am working 12 hours. Plus I don't know of anyone giving a significant price reduction on it either. |

Not sure if I'm venturing out or not. I ordered a new video game system for my son at Walmart.com and my other son bought a wii with his own money after staying up all night, in line in front of Best Buy.
I'm still considering a flat screen HDTV but probably won't buy it today. I might just get out with my camera and maybe get a "famous last words" or "diagonal line" shot although I've already entered one. It is way early and I can always change my mind.
Happy shopping everyone. OH, and eating leftovers!! |

I was at WalMart @4:50 this morning, went in and bought 2 of the unadvertised special complete desktop computer systems and was back home at 5:15. Paid $148each or $319.xx with tax for them.

www.blackfriday.info
It has most of the retailers, and it tells most of online deals too, with links! :D I wish I had some money to blow, because there are some AWESOME deals out there. |

Here's my idea of holiday shopping:
Pink fuzzy slippers...on
Hot cup of cocoa with a splash of peppermint scnapps...on
Vintage holiday music playing...a little Bing, a little Mathis....on
My trusty laptop....on
***No long lines, No fighting for parking spaces, no crowds, no stress!***
Now THAT'S Shopping! : ) |

Last year I did good, but missed a few things I wanted. This year that will not happen!
I (and 2 friends) begin camping out at 9 pm thurs. Yes, 8 hours to wait. The list is 3 laptops, 2 desktops, 2 19" monitors, 1 DLP projector, and some miscellaneous items (laptop case, DVDs, CF cards, speakers, etc)
I saw one store had a Canon Rebel for $799. BestBuy has the 400XTi for $899 w/ kit lens.
If I had more money I saw a 50" plasma TV for $1699! |
NO WAY - BUT - SAW these should anyone need cards!
Circuit City...Sandisk 1G Ultra II ($14.99)
CompUSA...4G Extreme II Compact Flash (after savings and rebate) $169!!
I've a 4G Extreme III and it's nice having the space! (Doesn't do a damn thing for my photo quality though, lol!!) Happy Turkey Day the day after.

Hubby went out to Best Buy and left here an hour before the sales start. Amateur! LOL There were 300 people in line before him. Needless to say, he did not get the TV or laptop he set out to purchase...32" Integrated LCD for $400-500 and HP laptop for $379, but he did get a good buy on a MP3 player for our 8 year old, 1GB $30.00 by Sandisk.
I assigned my Dad to WalMart for 54" Projection TV for $474 and two desktop PC's (no monitor) $169...something like that. He left here 5 minutes after the sale started. He came back empty handed. Again...Amateur! I have done Black Friday shopping for the really good buys for a few years now. I had to skip out this year being 4 weeks away from delivering a baby and EXTREMELY uncomfortable physically, not to mention tired.
I went later in the morning to take advantage of Office Depots 2 day sales on an external 250GB hard drive $49.00 after mail in rebates, $10.00 off HP ink for printer and 2GB Sandisk Flash drive $29.99 after mail in rebates. I hate rebates, but in the end I will have bought $300 worth of merchandise for half the price. I will suffer through the rebate process. They also have pretty good buys on Compact Flash cards, but I really don't NEED another one. Oh, it was difficult to pass up a $20.00 1GB Sandisk though.
As far as cameras go...I have found B&H has a good sale through today on the XTI, black or silver body. Silver body is $679.95. Hubby thinks I am crazy, but I want to bump up for that price!

I'm home in Illinois with the family for the holiday. We're not going shopping today. We're going to pick up my Great Aunt Helen and take her out to dinner. She's a Catholic nun and hasn't been doing too well health-wise lately.
At some point this week, however, Mom, my sister Chrissy and I are going to go Christmas shopping for a little old lady in hospice care Chrissy found on a giving tree somewhere. This has been a bit of a tradition for us for several years. Mom's employer used to sponsor residents of a local nursing home who had no family left, who we alled the "Grandma Ladies", but for some reason they stopped. Chrissy found this one and called Mom to ask if we could go shopping for her like we always had for our "Grandma Ladies". It's a lot of fun!
I won't do Christmas shopping for friends and family until I get back to Colorado, no room in the luggage. |

Update, now that I'm back from the obligatory trip to see the inlaws...
got a call from my friends brother - he saw people starting to line up at BestBuy at 7pm. I got there at 7:30 - #8 in line! By midnight the line had turned the corner of the bulding and made it's way partway back to one side. By 2 am it was arond the back of the building, and by 4 it was around the building and into the parking lot and then some.
At 4 AM the employees (who arrived at 2am) came out and started handing out vouchers for some of the items - I got my laptop (#4 of 10 they had). I got everything I wanted, even though some things were grab-n-go (no vouchers). At 4:30 the Starbucks lady arrived with coffee and hot chocolate. Dunkin Donuts came with a large delivery, but I never saw it handed out. At 5 am the doors opened and they let 30 people at a time. I was checked out and loading my van by 5:35.
Went to McD's for breakfast and got warm in the van, then hit staples for a couple of Sandisk 2Gb Ultra 2 CF cards ($39 each).
On the good side...handed out cards to 3 HS juniors (need senior pics in the spring) in line, and then a former coworker and a friend stopped bu with a couple of HS junior cheeleaders--2 more senior pic prospects, and then her friend says she's getting married and needs a photog for July! Over at staples in the next line over another former coworker - getting married next year too! And the guy behind him in line as well.
If the all book, hey, even if 1/2 book - i'll have made a profit on the night even after the purchases!
