I am going to buy my first dSLR from Ritz Camera and I am getting the D50 but if I get the Nikon Lens its 50 bucks more then the Quantaray is it really worth the extra 50

YES.

yes, if you said sigma vs nikon, no, but quantaray is simply crap. You'd do better to get a fixed lens "prosumer" like the Panasonic FZ5 than to get that lens.

i bought my camera from ritz, i bought 2 quantaray lenses since i don't have the money for the nikon ones, they seem to be doing an ok job, i don't recoment the 18-90 but i would recomend the 70-300.

What size and cost of lens you looking at? Maybe someone can suggest an alternative. You're not the only one on a limited budget :)

The 2 Lenses are:
Quantary 28-90 AF Lens
and
Nikkor 28-80 Lens

I have the quantaray 55-200 and am very happy with it. I also have a nikon 70-300 and I like the quantaray better.

Spend the extra 50 on the Nikon lens or a comparable Sigma. Leave the Quantary at Ritz.

I used to work for a short time for Ritz. the quantaray lenes are actually made by Sigma, however they are total crap. They don't meet true sigma standards as they are for Ritz exclusivly. If you don't have the money for the Nikon glass get a true Sigma or a tokina or tamaron, just don't get the quantaray.
