Hi all,
Just recently joined the site, and since I'm beginning to be a beginner I need all the help I can get. Sooooo...just wanted to see if there is such a thing here on the site where someone would be willing to give a private critique on a couple of pics. I want to enter them in an open comp but not sure if it'd be a fitting entry.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and I hope to become half as good as most of the people on here (one can dream, can't he :)).

He said he wants to enter them in an open comp, assuming he means an open challenge, I am 99.9% sure he shouldnt post a link here for critiques and then enter it into a challenge. You might want to send a link via PM to someone who doesnt mind looking at a possible challenge entry.

I think the best thing to do would be to just start putting together a portfolio, and them posting here to invite people to comment on the pics.
Then pick the first challenge that really inspires you, take your time and enter a picture you're happy with.
I found that when I joined, I jumped right in and entered every challenge, even if I wasn't completely happy with the image.
I'm becoming more picky and, even though my scores haven't improved a whole lot, I'm much happier with the pictures I've entered. I tend to put less emphasis on scores anyway, but I am learning an incredible amount from the superb photographers on the site.

as Fromac suggested - start posting some shots in your portfolio and ask for some comments. There are many here who offer to give them. If you see shots you like - PM the person and ask how they did it.
Not everybody will respond - but many will. It will give you a starting point.

There aren't any open challenges this month that a grey shirt can enter and anything already shot won't be eligible for any future challenges anyways. So, he can post a link to this thread if he wants feedback.

He can enter High Contrast and Beer Advertisement. They are open challenges.
