What is the consensus on PM'ing a voter that commented on your photo, and that the challenge is still in the voting phase?

A comment was made and I think I can persuede that commenter to possibly raise his/her vote. In order to do so, I would be revealing my photo to them.

two things:
- nobody can prevent you from trying (it is not against the TOS, but the challenges are supposed to be anonymous).

- most people are likely not to change their vote upon receiving such PM. Some may feel insulted and even lower the score. Usually, the going story is: if you have to explain it, it's not good enough. If the title and the photo aren't clear enough, then you missed. Take it in stride and look forward to the next challenge.

So, don't bother PMing with the intent of changing someone's vote. You may still PM with a thankful note about the comment, gently suggesting that the intent was different.

And first, check the commenter's profile and try to gauge from their biography whether they consider it to be OK to PM them during the challenge or not. Some people put their preference in the bio.

P.S. sorry to have offended those with an aversion to flowers .. and now I know better for the next challenge :)

At least the score is on an upward climb, with 2 of the 6 comments being constructive. It seems the voters like certain aspects of my shot. So much for soft focus around the centerpiece of my photo and not tweaking any color in PS. This gives me a better sense of what types of shots to do for the next challenge!

I'm not much better. As I said before, I got a lousy entry, so voters seem to be sympathetic to my own frustation by making it break above 4.

The latest comment is 'blurry.' They are missing the fact that it was intentional, to showcase the actual purple item in the photo.

Perhaps I may even figure out how to quote a message by the end of this challenge!

Just hit the "quote" button in the upper right of a comment you want to quote - that's it :)

This is very true. However I just had someone PM me in this challenge because what I said was blue appeared as a different color on their screen. Since they weren't bitching me out and just pointing out that their might be something up with monitor calibration, I checked the same photo across a couple different pc's and got a result that was in their favor. So I bumped them accordingly.

That said, I've gotten lots of other pm's that weren't so reasonable. I will generally reply 'hey thanks for pointing it out' and then go hamstring their vote...

So if you are going to do it, be nice about it.

Well, I've now placed post-it's on my monitor to cover up my "unrelatedness" score so I am finding some relief in my PURPLE score. I'm still in the game! :-)

I'm going to tell them what I tell my children..."NO!"

High or low, my vote is....MY VOTE. And, I'm gonna stick to it!

I knew my pic was going to do well below 5 because it was a rush idea right before deadline, but I am suprised because 9 of the 10 comments are positive. I wish people who are voting down would leave me some constructive criticisms! I even had to validate my photo, for some bizarre reason... I'm just suprised because it is not great quality!

This is a first for me - my score is at 3.9 and absolutely not one comment! Is that common?

hmmm... I'm posting a pic for the Contrast challenge now and I see that I can vote for myself. is that true? am I supposed to be "objective" here? but it's nearly impossible! I'm sure my photo is worth 10:)

Getting a low number of comments is unfortunately not so rare. Getting zero comments, well that is a little unusual. How do I put this gently? Hmmm...given your score, some may be having a hard time saying anything nice so they don't say anything at all. Not the way it should work, but sometimes it does.

Considering this is a scores thread, probably shouldn't get too involved with this conversation. Start a new thread if you like maybe? Also, consider using the search feature of this site as this subject has been discussed at length numerous times.

It's a preview to show you what it will look like to the voters. Believe me, I've tried that 10 button. It doesn't work. :D

This is my second-lowest scoring photo ever, the lowest was my first submission and it was small. I didn't expect it to do well as it was a last-minute submission tightly-cropped from a very large file picture, so it's not the size necessarily. Not getting one comment, though, makes it seem like it's just sitting over there in the corner of the room and everybody is passing it by like it's not important. I don't like to make negative comments either, but I will occasionally, especially if I give a 3 or below. At 3.9 I've got to be getting 3s and lower with an occasional 4 and above. Come on people, comment -- it's the picture with purple in it!

Down the stretch I come :). Hopig to be top 10, maybe even top 5. But I think all those in the WPL are holding all there big scores close to them.

Man, I'm dropping enough to make me nervous, but it hopefully it won't matter. These next 6 hours need to get over with!

I bet you'll get Top 10 Joe! Maybe 5 if you are lucky.
