I really need to meet the infamous and delightfully quirky Jutilda as well as the quiet but seemingly very friendly TheresaA before I head off to Europe in November. Hence, I think we need a south central Texas get-together. I know SandyP is out of town until the end of the month (more or less) and I'll be out of town the last week of September. So I'm looking at the 7th or 8th of October, though I do that it is a holiday weekend.

Anyone interested? PhantomEWO? dleach? Any suggestions as to where to go? Yanko makes downtown Austin look quite interesting - I'd be willing to give that a shot, so to speak. There's always Gruene, which ain't exactly halfway in between, but it is in between. The Riverwalk, downtown SA, and the missions are other possibilities.

Discuss! :-)

Bump for the weekend. Anyone? Or are y'all waiting for me to leave before we have a get together.... ;-)

Move it a little further north, and Jim and I might show up....

Well I don't know about further north.... Austin is about as far north as I want to go on a weekend. Maybe you guys will have to come visit me in Germany....

I think yanko and maybe even arsenal would come. I'm game. Holiday weekends don't mean much to me. Mike's in the car business, so he's always working. LOL

Let me know. I'll drive!!

Woo hoo! That's pretty much a majority 'round these parts, right? :-)

So Austin or SA?

I may also be interested if it is in Austin. I will have a lot of school work to do that weekend, but if all goes well, I will have a brand new digital SLR by the time that weekend rolls around. It will be my first.

In fact, I already have two lenses for it (200 f2.8 and 50 f1.8) sitting in my apartment. Man I can't wait to get it! Sorry, tangent.

Point being, if it's in Austin, I can probably show too.

I'd be up for it. I'm in Austin, but would be OK with San Antonio or somewhere in between. Saturday would be better than Sunday for me. There's a couple other guys at work who are DPC members; I'll see if they're interested.

Heh, there's always carpooling. I have a 7 passenger Odyssey van. You bring Diet Cokes, I drive. ha ha ha ha

Shoot. I'll probably be in Dallas that weekend helping my mom move but I'm not 100% sure yet.

By all means! I'm thinking I'm leaning towards Austin at this point, though there are some interesting grungy locations in San Antonio that might be worth exploring. Open to suggestions!

I am up for anything from Dallas to Houston, basically the whole central area of texas! lol

Hi guys! Count me in!

How 'bout maybe Gruene??? But I'm game to go to Austin if that's where it is too. Maybe me and Deb and Theresa could drive together. I have a Toyota Camry, so it doesn't hold too many people, but at least 3 besides me.

Woo hoo! I've always wanted to do this!

I can't do it Saturday 10/14 tho, so I hope we don't do it that weekend.

Thanks for getting this going, Deb!

Bump!

OK, folks, this coming Saturday - 7 October. Need to know who pretty much wants to attend, and where. We could go to either downtown Austin or San Antonio to shoot for the "portrait without faces" challenge and see if we could get ourselves arrested for being a general nuisance... :-)

And speaking of San Antonio/Austin, proud to say the area boasts the latest blue ribbon winner - Yanko.

'Bout time, dude, don't you think? :-)

Any final word on where this is going to be held? I think the Pecan Street Festival is going on in Austin this weekend. Should be lots of people around downtown. Nothing particularly spectacular about the event photographically. Though I did do pretty well with this image last year.

What's going on in San Antonio? Or elsewhere that is under consideration?

Edited for neatness.

No word. Up for bids and ideas. A street festival might be interesting. I'm not sure what's going on in San Antonio this weekend. Maybe Sandy or Don will chime in - they're generally more in-the-know on that sort of thing.

Guys, are you out there?

I'd be in for Saturday, October 7. Just to get something on the table for discussion I suggest the downtown Austin area in the afternoon and evening. Possible subjects include Town Lake bridges and runners, downtown skyline, old power plant, people on South Congress, and perhaps the state capitol.

It's getting late in the year, but the bats might still be around.

As alternate possibilities more towards San Antonio maybe Natural Bridge Caverns. I went there once long ago but have never tried any photography there. Costs $$ to enter as well.

The Wildflower Center in south Austin is open for photography but I'm not sure if there will be many flowers this time of year.

I talked to or emailed some other DPC guys that work on my floor. brockmd is busy, never heard from mitemouze, and srdanz has soccer but is lurking on this thread and might be able to join up at some time.

Thoughts?

Well gang,
I'm in the middle of getting my Texas Real Estate License and will be taking 12 hour per day classes every Fri/Sat & Sun for the next month. Weekends are shot for me till the end of Oct. From a couple of weeks ago back to a few years ago I was free 24/7 to do anything, someone needs to shake me back to reality, why in the world did I really want to be the Chief Photographer of a Real Estate newspaper during the day and a real estate agent the est of the time. Stupid ... stupid ... stupid but I'm having fun doing something ;)

Silly you, indeed! What were you thinking?? We'll miss having you join us - I'm here until mid-November then I'm a dot. :-)

OK, I'm going to declare the location as "Austin". Now we need someone from Austin to suggest a convenient meeting place, preferably easy to get to off of 35 and with parking available. Let's set the meeting time for 2 pm so those of us in San Antonio have plenty of time to take care of morning chores and get up there.

So who's in?
10/03/2006 06:34:53 AM · #24
I'll suggest meeting by the capitol. On this page is a link to a PDF map of state parking lots, which are free on weekends.

Let's aim for lot 14 on that map, at 11th and Congress. Coming from San Antonio on I35, take the second exit after crossing the river. I don't remember what it says on the exit sign, maybe 6th-11th streets or something like that. From the feeder road turn left on 11th under the freeway. Just after you pass the capitol on your right the lot will be on your left.

From there we could drive to various places. There's usually lots of free parking on the weekends.

Okay... I just saw this thread. I have to review my calendar to see if I can go (HS kids in marching band...). Austin is fine.
