I think I'm going to become an honorary 'Challenge Literalist' for this one ; )
It's like rain on your wedding day? No, that's just coincidence, or bad luck :P
Essential reading before you try to define irony (if it even exists!) ...

Ouch, that's a toughie. But as I'm determined to prove that the only ironic thing about that song was that it contained no irony ...

The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.
An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning.
This should prove to be a fun challenge and make thinking mandatory :)

I was really hoping to enter in the up comming challenge but due to lack of creative ideas for the thought/term ironic, I think I will sit back and read the included link above 4 more times.... Cause while I know what ISN'T ironic, I'm not sure what is :)
Bet heck I'm just a stupid painter and software engineer :)

Now that would show irony... |

A young man boarding a train looses his balance when the conductor starts the train and a young actor reaches his arm out a window and saves him. The young actor was brother to John Wilkes Booth (assassin of Abraham Lincoln) and the young man who was saved... he was Abraham Lincoln's son...

'Irony is a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.'
Hmmm...'contrary to what one expects'. That makes the irony depend on the person's views and interpretation. What could be ironic to one person could be typical to another.

A black fly in your chardonnay?
not even a little ironic. a bit disgusting perhaps. and a little bit more obvious than a black fly in, say, coffee, but still not ironic.
i think we should change the week's challenge to 'Moronic'. That would be easy.
