150+ views, 1 comment - help me out please.

Back drop is a black sheet.
I'm laying on my couch.
Lighting is a desk lamp with a 60-watt bulb near my head, and a floor lamp with a 25-watt bulb near my feet.

Used 10-second timer.

Had to clone out part of the couch at the bottom, and some wrinkles in the sheet at the top

Selected the red colours and desaturated to -25 (my face was horribly red)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You look fantastic!!!!!

I agree with the comments. 25 weeks is a bit early to get maternity shots that really "show", but it's certainly a good place to start. As you get closer to your due date, I would recommend getting more shots. You might want to set aside some time every weekend to 1.) photograph your progress and 2.) practice your technique and lighting. You may want to play around with natural lighting and use windows to create more of a silhouette.

The primary goal of "maternity" photography is to accent the belly. Profile shots work much better than straight on shots. Please feel free to browse my maternity collection to see if you can get any ideas. I'm no professional by any stretch of the imagination, but it is an area I'm trying to focus on more.

My unsolicited $0.02 USD.

I am trying now to find some poses that work for me, and that I can manage with a 10-second timer (no remote for my camera).

I do have some of the very typical upright side-views, but none that are artistic (lack of props, etc).

I'm also having trouble finding poses that work for my body type - most pro maternity shots I see that have any allure to them are of women who are very thin other than thier belly. And that is just not me, not by a LONG shot.

First, CONGRATULATIONS! Second, try to overlook the 'body image' typecast and just remember these are memories that you are creating for yourself! I can completely relate to body type concerns...I am so far off from the perfect body type for these shots, but I have always wanted to do them since my first pregnancy. In 1998, there was a lack of money to hire someone and a lack of resources to do it myself. In 2005, I had my 3rd boy, and did some self-portraits. I only wanted to share them since you expressed a concern about the poses and timer issues. I got some interesting things using a short timer.

I am actually setting up now to do some more self-portrait maternity shots as I am about 23 weeks pregnant with my first girl...and what I expect to be the last baby. I will share what I come up with if I get some interesting shots. I am planning to shoot black on black, so we will see what I get! Congratulations and best of luck to you.

You can guess which of these shots had the short timer. The other two were done with a wireless remote. My biggest struggle was with autofocus. The lens automatically wanted to focus on the backgroud. I finally engaged the assistance of my niece who loves photography as much as I do. They were not quite what I was after and once I got past he body image issues, I have some wonderful memories to keep to myself!

Those are gorgeous !

It's so nice to see maternity photos where the mom is not pencil-thin.

Thank you...happy to share them. These are what I got with help from another eye behind the camera.

Here are a handful of what I got today...not quite what I was after, but you get the idea of poses I was going for...
