Ouch. Watched the first 5 minutes of the Woody Harrelson movie.

Gotta love the recent swing of 'believe me because all the other guys are extremist exaggerators' slant on things...

Oh I really like that the 'Official Truth = If you smoke Marijuana, you will kill people"... Obviously that's at the root of every medical article that's ever broached the issue of smoking.

Yeah, right... I find it very disappointing that these days, one can 'prove' that one's issue is right just by picking up a self-serving cause, finding the wildest bunch of opposing views and plastering them all over the place, on the grounds that the opposition is just a bunch of narrow minded idiots and ignoring all the actual educated information that usually has much more moderate views.

Now I haven't watched all of it and you can't judge a book by it's cover, but my point is that it's nice that the foundation is laid in the first 5 minutes of this mindset.

The video provides a very good history of the topic. You obviously didn't watch it because you're mad about things that you saw but that weren't resolved yet in the video. Really you need not rant about this, you have judged the movie before you even got into it. It is, yes a little edgy on the issue, but the factual information is all there, be it presented in a biased (pro mj) way.

At the point in time they had gotten to in the video that WAS the offical truth of the time. The video will update that "truth" as the history progresses. The point is that you jumped the gun getting so mad.

Also I realize this is getting really off topic so I guess if you want to debate this topic more, somebody should start a new thread. I'd be happy to join in after it's been started.

?

Actually, the real reason I didn't watch the movie was download speed.

I did watch the whole movie.

Being someone with more than average experience in the field of health, and as someone with a sister who is both a heroin addict and a heavy pot user, I feel quite connected to the issue. I had no intention of not watching the whole thing.

What I was reacting to was the strong bias presented in the introduction.

Something that doesn't really let up throughout the entire movie.

It's not really so much of a history of marijuana or an actual discussion of it as a substance (which it never claims to be, but a certain amount of this would be appropriate as a foundation for a documentary) as it is a history of the media presentation and the politics of American policy on it.

I found the scientific information to be very vague and strongly biased, particularly towards 'Pop science' and group tests.

I said before that you can't judge a book by its cover, but that statement doesn't really hold true for this particular movie. It takes up a tone in the first five minutes that remains throughout.

For my point of view (as a non-American not living in America with only a few American friends compared to my Asian and European circle of friends), the factual information presented in that movie has very little relevance to me as it is mostly concerned with American views, and deals little with actual science or more importantly, non-american history. It doesn't examine modern day examples of countries other than America which have legalized MJ.

I stand by my statement that this movie is bordering quite closely on propaganda and is NOT a "must-watch".

I realize that the content is off-topic, but I feel it is just as appropriate as your original comment that the History of Grass is a movie that everyone should watch along with the links for similar themes.

Suggesting that this is an important movie to watch is about as useful as suggesting that the 'Official Truth' movie clips presented in the movie are 'must watch' peices.

That's it from me on this topic as well... sorry for the jack.
