mnemonic for the geologic periods: Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Mississippian, Pennsylvanian, permian, Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous, Tertiary, Quaternary |
Haha, I've never heard of that. Poor Tom! :-D Of course there are a lot of subdivisions to the Periods. |
What are you people talking about? There are only two geologic periods: Old Testament and New Testament...

I have a question. What's with the balls at the beaches? It wouldn't be something I'd think of, but it seems like it's a well known thing? |
Most of the images look like they were taken on the Oregon coast. The glass balls are hand blown floats. The Japanese fisherman used them to float the fishing nets in years past before plastic floats. The floats would break loose and beachcombers would find them on the Oregon beaches. Now we have glass shops that make very colorful reproductions for tourist, the floats are found at nearly every tourist shop on the Oregon coast. Glad I didn’t go out and shoot mine. |
Not just Oregon, but west coast to be sure. I have one that we found in the 60's near our marina in BC. And nope, didn't shoot it either, tho' I DID think about it! |
Supposedly you can find a LOT of them washed up on Midway Island and on down the island chain into Hawaii. I wish I did have one or our actual glass balls for my shot. We put them in storage and I had to make do with a store bought one.

Hmm.. just figured out whats really wrong with my pic.. The contrast is horrid.. The settings of my monitor are so wonky that the contrast seemed great and gave it more depth.. Nowwwwww I saw my pic on some other computer and it's so shallow and bright ugghhh.... Needless to say I'm pissed at my stupidity..

Have you ever calibrated it? I did mine with the onboard calibration wizard, and thought it was fine, then redid it with one that was mentioned in a thread here. Now when I look at my darker entries that used to look good I can see they're not! I can't remember the name of the utility but it's a free one. I'll see if I can find it for you. |

Did I get to yours yet? If not, my psychic abilities are starting to fail me and I should really stop dropping so much money on the ponies :) |
