Hi, all! Quick question - Now that my wife and I have DSL, I want to use Microsoft Outlook for our email stuff. But, we have two different email addresses. Am I right in saying we have to create two separate profiles in windows itself in order to keep separate inboxes? Or is there another way?

Actually you can create separate profiles within Outlook itself, without having to worry about logging in and out of windows itself:

OL2002: How to Create a New E-mail Profile for Outlook

That example is for Outlook 2002, but 2000/XP should be very similar, if not the same. I'm not sure if you can do that with Outlook 97 though... Hope it helps!

You can also do it on the same profile and set up rules so that they go to separate inboxes.

I'm using Outlook 2000 and Windows ME - I don't see that I can do it without setting up a separate windows account. Anyone with Outlook 2000 done this?

Tools > email accounts > add new account

Set that all up.

Then, if you want them to come into different folders, go to Tools > Rules Wizard and you can set it up so that each address goes into a different folder.

Actually I have done with a box with Outlook 2000 and Windows 98. Hmm. If you can get your mail properties, (usually by right clicking on the Outlook icon on the desktop and clicking properties) you should be able to bring up the profiles window to add/edit/remove profiles (and force to choose them, as stated in the article at MS).

If your Outlook icon doesn't do that, then you'll have to get into your control panel and find the mail icon. It shouldn't be an outlook icon. I know in ME they have a limited selection. There should be an option to view all or change the view of the control panel. (it's been a while since I've loaded ME!)

It's possible in Win98 so I'm sure it's possible in ME.

I outlook express there is a 'File>Identities>Add New Identity'. I haven't used outlook before, but express is just a smaller version with less features isn't it? If so, Outlook should have this option somewhere, but if not, I apologise, my mistake :P

Outlook Express and Outlook 97/2000/XP are actually two different products, not based around the same code. They do, however, share a number of similar features.

Having had a quick look through Outlook 2000, Identities doesn't seem to be one of them, however. :-/

I've not used Identities in Outlook Express, although that sounds like a good idea. If you have both Outlook and Outlook Express, and you can't get Identities working, I'd recommend just using both apps separately. I've done that in the past and it works well. It also makes it much easier to know who's who, and avoids making mistakes in sending email from the wrong person!

Outlook express is free I think. You could just download it from Microsoft if you don't have it on your computer already. That way you could set them both up in Outlook Express, or set one up in Outlook Express and one in Outlook.

Eudora Mail is also a free mail program you could download and set one of them up on. It's pretty much the same as outlook and outlook express.

It does look as if Outlook Express has an option (unter Tools) for adding an additional account as well as Outlook. Haven't done that with either as my dogs can't use the keyboard...yet.
