Is this a good lens? I'm thinking of buying it today but I wish I could get a couple reviews first.

Any thoughts on this?

from teh price, and the fact that i've never heard anyone recomend this lens, it strikes me as a plain old consumer grade lens, nothing wonderful. Don't expect sharpness, great contrast or color.

the sigma 70-300 4-5.6 APO super macro is a very good lens for the money and highly recomended by tons of folks. about $200.

Is the "sigma 70-300 4-5.6 APO super macro" you refer to the same lens as a "sigma 70-300 4-5.6 DG macro"? I'm looking at getting another lens as all I have is the kit lens for my 350d. Being in New Zealand it all costs that much more so I want one that isn't too shabby but isn't going to break the bank either.

I'm looking at //www.sigma-photo.co.jp/english/lens/telezoom/70_300_4_56_apo.htm as a reference.

I just got the Sigma DG 70-300mm APO last week and I really like it, Although pictures taken at the 300mm range will need some GIMP or PHOTOSHOP touching up.
