I'm not sure if this came up at all in the main bokeh thread, but I thought it might be interesting to explore the etymology of the word.
"Bokeh" is a Japanese word which means "out of focus" or "faded", or in some contexts stupid or "spaced-out". It can be used in compound to form words like "jisaboke" (jetlag), and the verb form ("bokeru") can mean anything from "fading" to "going senile."
Not sure if that sheds any light on the challenge rules, but I thought I'd share since this is the first time I've seen the word used in reference to photography outside of the Japanese language itself. |

| depending who you talk to it can mean the out of focus points of light and anything else that's out of focus is called backround blur. |
