HI
I am starting an online business. I will be selling my goods through ebay. Problem i am facing is that at ebay india they are allowing me to upload images upto only 100kb, and biggest size is say 800pixel on longest side.

I had shot some images at highest setting for quality as well size i.e 5 mega pixel and when i try to get reduce it to a above mentioned criteria i end up saving jpeg file at 3-4.

when compared to orignal it doest look great.

after resizing your photo to 800px on the longest side, you need to run an unsharp mask to sharpen the photo.

Try the Save for Web function - you can choose dimensions aand size, normally you could get those specifications with a quality of 75/100

ETA: this gets rid of unwanted stuff like EXIF data thats embedded in the file, so you get more quality for less size

I sell quite a bit on ebay, and I suggest that you host your own photos. This allows you to display the photo without any restrictions and also if you needed to edit the photo for some reason you can do so.

Here is an example of a current auction of mine (a Nikon flash).

95% of ISPs include a small website (usually 5mb or so) as part of the whole package. Most people don't take advantage of this space, but its perfect for ebay photos. During the listing process, ebay will ask for an image URL. Just type the image location in, and the imge will appear in your listing.

edit: typos

Most people would advise against posting full size versions on the web, unless you embed a large watermark on it, because it is just too easy for people to steal the image. A small version should look good enough for web viewing for someone to decide to buy it, and if someone steals a small res version, it really limits what they could do with it.

I dont need to fear any one stealing my images as the are images of garments produced by us. I mean to say they are very specific product not mass produced good.

I think i wont be allowed to link images from service like fotopic.net
I have to see where to find web space

I have signed fro photobucket. I was thinking what if i become a member here i.e. DP challenge . I would get some web space.

Will DP challenge allow me to link images i host here to ebay auction. and also will ebay allow it.

It would be great i f i can host my images here as DPC is well maintained site.
