Summer!!! and finally time for a good vacation!
Well. Me and my girlfriend are headed to vegas on the 23rd, and i've never been before. Our only plan: take pictures till our eyes pop out. So i thought id ask all the profesionals: are any "must shoot" spots in vegas??
Jacob
Ps: not sure how much im looking foward to the heat wave that is going to be meeting us there... :| us iowans are scared of those kind of temps. ;) |

Awwwwww, but it's a "dry" heat. :-)
Don't have to tell you to have fun though, that's just a given in Vegas. See the BlueMan Group if they're still there. :) |

There have been quite a few threads about Las Vegas.
Check out this bunch, I'm sure you'll find plenty of useful information there. |

Comparing Omaha summers to Las Vegas summers.... I'll take Las Vegas summers. Well, scratch that. The heat in the desert outside of Las Vegas is bearable. The heat on the streets of Las Vegas isn't. In the desert it's more of a dry heat as everyone always says. On the streets it's full of sweaty people, car exhaust, and evaporation from the water features. Not nearly as humid as the midwest but not enjoyable either. We'll be there starting the 29th. Not entirely looking forward to it as it's just a stopover for a couple of days before on to our final destination but the stopover isn't for me.
Anyway, in the area it's always nice to visit Red Rock Canyon and Valley of Fire. I prefer the Valley of Fire. The Welcome to Las Vegas sign is always a must have, it's over by the airport. The architecture of the casinos at sunset including their respective shows. The Bellagio's water show for one. If you've never been then the Hoover Dam is should be visited. You can always escape some of the heat and experience the outdoors by driving up to Mt. Charleston although it's best earlier or later in the year.
You didn't say how long you were staying but depending on how much time and your level of interest you could make side trips to the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, and Rhyolite. |

Las Vegas' airport is a cheap means of getting to all of what is beyond Las Vegas.
Rent a car, drive east and northeast to see the Vermillion Cliffs...Grand Canyon (North Rim)...rent a boat on Lake Powell for amazing watery canyons and natural rock arches...Bryce National Park...and Zion National Park.
Oh, and let me tag along so that I can do all this again with the company of a like minded photographer. |

gonne be there the 22-27th. give or take. i may just not come back to iowa... we'll see how the card tables treat me.. i do well here in iowa, but i think im safe in assuming that cards will be difrent in vegas... i've done alot of landscape photography (scenery etc.) i think my trip to vegas will be more of a documentary style. im going to shoot people... with my camera. :D thinking about gettin a small point and shoot also for the trip.. just for quick pics of my and my girlfriend. i think im still to camera shy to whip out my 20d in a resturaunt or similar... any advice on that? (point and shoot)? |

I don't think there is any reason to be shy about using your DSLR but electronic devices of any sort are frowned upon in the casino. I was asked to leave a roulette table at Harrahs many years ago because I didn't have anywhere to put my Olympus C3040z away from the table. So if you're planning on taking photos in between casino visits a small P&S might be a good idea. |
