Shot a wedding today. Second one in a week and WOW.. this one was sooo amazing. The site was fabulous. Bridal party perfect. Only problem.... torrential downpour! Florida style!

Moments before the ceremony, the rain stopped and the sun peeped just a bit. By the reception, it was hot as hades, humid and beautiful! Just before sunset.

Anyway, I have about 900 shots to pick through, but grabbed this one the moment it came off the mem card and fell in love. I knew the moment I posed them there that this shot would hang on their wall... I hope.

What 'cha think?

Aaaack! Somehow I heard that from a voice in my head before I saw your post. GET OUT OF MY HEAD! ;-)

Sorry, Cindi. Post more pics here and I'll drop some serious comments tomorrow. :)

Good morning all, and thanks. Margie, I took your advice. I thought I was wide awake when I posted this thread, but it was just adrenelyn (sp?) and I fell asleep HARD moments later. Back to editing now so I can share a few more :D

A few more quick picks. I'm so pleased with how this event turned out, the shots will require almost NO PS anywhere. Seriously, I couldn't be more thrilled. I sure hope the Bride & Groom are as happy with the shots as I am.

Very impressive, which of your lenses did you use at this wedding?
06/04/2006 07:45:00 AM · #12
Ha! That's the funniest thing. I used my 100mm for close shots during the ceremony and a few fun shots with the LensBaby and fisheye... but 95% of this wedding and all of the shots I've posted were taken with the 50mm 1.8 :D A ~$80 lens. :)

Edit to mention: Used 420EX speedlight (flash) and gary fong diffuser on most every shot.

Did you find you had to use your 70-200 during the ceremony at all?

Thanks so much for the kind comments and remarks, guys. I'm still on cloud 9 over this one as it was only my 4th pro wedding and so far the best overall result. :)

The first one's absolutely brilliant. There seems to be a little haloing around the groom's head, though. Easily fixed, I'm sure. Great pictures, all of them, although this one looks a little 'confrontational'. Perhaps it's the fact that the two heads are so far apart. To me, your enthusiasm shows in these shots and that's a good thing.

Well, I'm glad YOUR wedding went well. I did one too, but not as a photographer. I don't think I ever mentioned it on the forums here, but I've had my own mobile DJ company for the past 11 years (just myself--owner and disc jockey). What's really cool from a photography standpoint, is that I always sit at the same table as the photographer for dinner so I get to have great conversations. I told the photographer last night that photography was a passion of mine, and he didn't seem to care too much until he pulled out his Lightsphere, and I said "oh, you use a Gary Fong Lightsphere too? I have one". His reaction was like "you know what this is and you OWN one? Damn, I guess you ARE into photography". We became fast friends after that LOL! (FWIW, he used a Fuji camera and Tamron lenses--I didn't get the models).
Anyway, the room was huge, and packed! 240 people. But these people would not dance for anything. I would get maybe 30 - 40 people on the (huge) dancefloor for slow songs, and maybe 15 - 20 for the faster ones. It was painful, to say the least. Ironically, at the end of the night I got a TON of compliments from people stating how much they enjoyed the music, and what a great job I did. So all's well that ends well, and like I said I've been doing this for years so I understand that some crowds just don't dance much. But when you are the one playing the music and you are stationed directly in front of the dance floor, the night can drag on to say the least. Anyway sorry to hijack the thread for a moment--I needed to rant a little (thanks for listening). Now back to our regularly scheduled thread.
And great pictures, BTW!!

lol Don, I feel your pain. My neighbor is a DJ and we've done weddings together before, so I get what you guys go through. Yesterday, because of the torrential downpour I mentioned earlier, some of the DJ's equipment got wet while he was setting up... namely his puter. So he had NO pre-set music. Well apparently everyone scrambled to get him whatever they could lay their hands on (I was busy inside with the bride) and he got enough music together to do the event.... but.... he didn't have 3 specific songs the bride/groom had asked for. So the wedding coordinator got mad and yelled and the DJ nearly left! As it turned out, the songs he substituted with were fine and the whole event came off very well. :) I tip my hat to you guys cause when a group don't wanna dance, they don't wanna dance! Takes a lot to get them up & going!

Very nice shots! The only thing I could critique would be the tree growing out of the grooms head :-) Not that this photo was hurt by it.

Its something that was taught to me by a good friend of mine, that often some things end up growing out of peoples heads. His examples were light posts and trees.

My thoughts on this are that trees are very hard to not have growing out of peoples heads when there in the backdrop, only trying to position the trees so that a bright trunk isn't directly above is the clearest way, otherwise softening by reducing the DOF can help too.

The littlest flower girl is most adorable, pure blackmail photo :-P

That's why I stay old-school--I use CDs! :o) I will probably go the laptop route in a few years, but with one dual CD deck, one single CD player, and hundreds of CDs, it would take a major catastrophy for me to lose ALL of my music. One scratched disc isn't going to kill my whole night. One fried hard drive, though, and it's all over.
