Hi,
I mainly do rock photography but got the opportunity to shoot some extreme sports riders (BMX bikers, skateboards, rollerbladers, etc) at the last concert I went to. I thought some of these shots would be great for Red Bull Energy Drink advertisements. How do I go about marketing these photographs as well as advertisement ideas to the company? I made some phototype ads with my pictures that can be viewed here:

What is the "correct" (and professional) way to market these to the company? (is there anything specific I need to say, or do?) I have never attempted this before, but i have a burning desire to at least TRY to market this idea to the company and see if they like it. The Red Bull Energy Drink company is a pretty large company with alot of customers. They sponsor extreme sports athletes and market to this crowd. That is what makes me think that they might actually go for this idea.
Also any input on these shots is welcome!
Any help or advice would be greatly apperciated!

Just a quick reply to your question. You would have to have a model release from the skater to even entertain the idea of selling the shots for add purposes. ( you may have one already, I dont know ) You would have to find out who markets their products also and contact them about your idea. Alot of larger buisnesses do not accept unsolicated ideas for fear of law suits, ie: they dont use your pics, but do something similar and now you want to sue them. Most big firms use ad agencies to handle their advertising stuff. You could get lucky, always worth sending an inquiry to see what their policies are.
The shots look good by the way.

I was at a workshop a couple of weeks ago and talking with a pro photographer. He was trying to take a shot of a jeep climbing this mountain to submit for a magazine cover. I asked how do you do that, and it was really pretty simple.
He simply sends a copy of the pics (he was shooting on slide film) with a cover letter explaining the pics and that he was interested in having it shown on the cover.
With regards to pricing, he said a cover usually brings $2,000, a full page inside was around $1,000 and a half or quarter page would be around $500.
He made the process sound simple, but whether they choose your shot is another story.... |
