I love my sphere. I use it at weddings and it certainly opens a few eyes. But to answer your questions -
1 - It is too big. But I find that useful...people tend to step out of your way or they get knocked with it. And that means that you have more room to move...more light on your subjects and no people pushing in.
2 - I got mine from Australia....they were out of stock and predicted 3 weeks...I got mine in a week. I live in Australia though.
3 - The top part comes separate but I bought them as a joint purchase....nothing else came with it. I put it on the flash and away I went. Simple.
I hope that helps.

1. If you're charging for a wedding, sometimes people will see the big, bulky dorky looking things as being more "pro". (not just the lightsphere, but flash brackets, big cameras, battery grips and lenses, etc). Sometimes this perception helps--people will assume any slight mistake is an intentional move to make the photo more "artistic" or whatever.
2. I forget the ship time, but at one point Gary Fong was selling them faster than he could pull them off the molds; delivery time may be quicker now.
3. Came with the cap, but check the order form--it should state that.

I ordered one about a month ago and I believe it only took 4-5 days. And that was from CA to IA, I thought that was pretty good. My only issue is that sometimes my flash doesn't want to stay at an angle with the lightsphere on,,,it is too heavy I think. But the results were good. |

I finally got mine, slow shipping compared to dealing with some of the other retailers I have dealt with. However the wait was worth it, this thing vertainly does what is says. Although it is a bit tight to get on the Sigma flash. I do love the results though.

Yeah it's a bitch to get on my sigma too....do you have the little square diffuser for the sigma? If you have that on it's much easier to slip the lightsphere on over that and still works great.

Ummm no I dont have the little square diffuser. Where did you get it? I have put the lightsphere on the flash and am leaving it there for the next 3 days in hopes of stretching it a bit, I feel like I am going to break the dang flash just getting it on there. If that doesnt work, I may actually trim a little off the inside ridges to make it go on easier. I like the results very much, but man its tough to get on there, and I dont want to break the flash.

Fellow photographers might take your seriously with a Fong Lightsphere but I've yet to find a customer who hasn't cracked a joke about it. One wedding reception had the suggestions that I use it for chips and dip (it does look disturbingly like a $70 peice of tupperware), the thoughts of my fellow college students immediately went to using it as a beer conveyance, I have had friends use it as a chin-rest when they had my camera around their neck, and the rest simply have given sideways glances, giggles, and the occasional "what the heck?".
Of course they all love the results of it, but that doesn't change the fact that, if we're simply going by looks, it might as well be a Ramen noodles bowl in the eyes of 90% of the non-photog population.

Yeah it does look very funny, but the quality it produces is well worth it. I ordered one for my 430EX and it is scheduled to arrive in the mail tomorrow! |

does anyone have the sigma EF-500 Flash and if so which lightsphere by Gary Fong will fit my flash? I am not sure which will fit. By the way I just made the homemade version and it works great. I still want to buy the lightsphere though.
Thanks for the help if anyone can tell me which size to buy.

There is a chart on the Gary Fong Website that tells you which sizes fit which flash models. |

I just bought the Sigma EF 500 Super flash and I got the P3 model of the Lightsphere. It's a bit of a tight fit, but if you watch the DVD that comes with the Lightsphere, there's a bit of a trick to get it on. I have no worries about it falling off the flash prematurely. |

How many of you actually had the Sto-Fen Omnibounce went ahead and got the Lightsphere and prefer the Lightsphere?? I wanted the Lightsphere and the hubby got me the Omnibounce instead as the Camera store told him they didn't have the Lightsphere. (He didn't realise you could only order it through the G. Fong website, I would have told him had I known he was going to buy one)
I have the SB 600 Flash and have been trying it out but unless I experiment more with compensation etc..I have a sneaky feeling the Lightsphere is better? Am I wrong? Thanks for your answers.

I got my first comment about it last week. I was asked something like "Is that an official piece of camera equipment you have on your flash there?"
I can breath easier now that I've been initiated.

I have seen side by side comparisons and the Lightsphere is considerably better from those examples...
