Hey everyone, I've got a Satellite 1415-s173 (in case you have this or a similar model). I was wondering how to add more RAM. I did a little searching that resulted in me finding the max is 512mb, which will do ok b/c I'm currently only at 256mb. Now I looked at various websites that sell memory and the only sizes they sell are 128 and 256mb. So do I just add this memory to the one in my laptop or do I replace it? If I'm supposed to replace it, I've had a hard time finding it! Thanks. |

According to crucial.com, you should have one more empty memory slot. So to upgrade to 512, just buy a stick of 256 and add it in. To install it, there should be a panel on the bottom that you can unscrew and just pop the memory into. |

So what is the main difference between a cheaper unit: Option 1 VS. Option 2
(Besides the obvious price difference) |

My honest opinion is to go with Crucial. I've used them for years and you can't get me to go anywhere else.

So the companies actually make the product then, right? So there is a a quality difference? |

Samsung and Crucial both manufacture memory. Crucial sells direct, the ebay Samsung is obviously a reseller.
At that level there's probably not a significant difference in the quality of the memory. Crucial is probably better regarded as far as high performance/high end memory goes.
you'll probably have an easier time dealing directly with Crucial if there is an issue then dealing with a reseller.
