That tripod is designed for cinematography. It's actually on the cheap end of serious tripods for that purpose :-) It has a "fluid head" which dampens any movements you make and a long, "panning handle" to allow smoother pans and "leg spreaders" to stabilize the tripod against torque as you pan with dampening on, which creates resistance.

ditto Bear
Also..If you shoot as much in studio as some people I know...you will use all the features of this tripod and the time you save and the frustration level you lower is worth it.
We made our own tripod with cable balancing and it weighs a good 500 pounds and we quoted another studio $4,000 to make it for them.
I just use a good manfrotto with ball head grip..total of about $280 but there are times I could use other features.

So that explains the fluid head then, thanks for explaining Robt., and others. |

Before digital, my tripod head combination often cost more than my camera lens combo. It's all about the tools that enable you to get the images your after. Of course in this instance it would be like buying mud tires for a VW Beetle.
Sachtler along with Gitzo & Reis are some of the best tripods in the world. Although their prices seem high, they are life long investments. Just make sure you get the right one for your purposes. And IMO, heads are even more important. |

Buy Gitzo for life. I dropped one from a 3 story tower in teh everglades to land on the edge of the railing of the platform below.
It's the only camera gear I considered diving in for in alligator infested water to save. Luckily it fell back onto the platform. But I woulda!!! :D
