This was taken in September of this year in Alabama. I can't seem to ID this one. Help would be nice. Thanks.

Great photo!
Unfortunately, none of the 4 reference books I have for identifying insects have this one in it. Lot of good they are. |

well... At least you know its a catapillar (srry for spelling?)... other than that, i'm not sure... did you try Google?

That has to be one of the ugliest insects I've seen in my life.

I don't have any of my books with me - could possibly be of the Limenitis family, but I'm not too sure about it.
Try posting it to:
BugGuide Net to be identified. Make sure to give information about where it was found.
It sure is a beautiful specimen... whatever it turns out to be.

Thanks everyone. Mine was on the same type briar vine as the one in this picture. I am going out this week to try and locate a cacoon in the area to photograph.

That is one very common looking moth to have come from such an exotic caterpillar.
