I need to order some software and while on this new site I found Adobe CS2 upgrade for
$134.95
$ 13.50 10% coupon code
--------
$121.45
Seemed like a pretty good update price. Shipping is $5.95, but they have some CD software for around $6.95 that gives free shipping so you can add that in and get something extra for the shipping price.
I bought CS last Jan/Feb and was disappointed when they came out with CS2 just outside my free upgrade range, and even more disappointed when I upgraded to the Rebel XT and lost RAW support (though I do use Bibble and RSP mainly for RAW). Just a pain when I can't even open a RAW file directly in adobe, which I want to do on occasion.
Anyone have any information on CS3, and what extra features it might have that would be worth waiting for? (I saw something about next spring/summer). Do you think CS2 is worth the $122 upgrade for features other than RAW processing?

I don't know about CS3, but Adobe has started selling bundles with Macromedia products...

Really? I wonder if they will maintain Freehand since it's a Illustrator rival. I've always perfered freehand, but have had trouble intergrating it with PS. |

I think it's a good bet that CS3 will hit the shelves in Spring. Adobe seems to have subscribed to the "annual upgrade philosophy." If the upgrades are really worth it, and they continue to provide support for those who don't upgrade, that's fine, however on continued support they have not come through. The CS2 upgrade was worth it for me, but I resented being coerced to upgrade by their dropping support for Adobe Camera Raw for CS.

At the same time however, do you dislike the vast improvement of Camera Raw in CS2? I think the changes are staggering!

I do like the changes, and would have upgraded regardless, I just feel that Adobe's handling of transition was much less than stellar.

Handy link (and article), thanks.
So, I'm wondering whether they are actually looking at three versions of PS (Elements, Standard and Premium) or whether they'll stick to two.
Interesting...

... and what the upgrade process will be for those with older versions if they choose the standard/premium route. The shifting of functionality to be exclusive in the premium version would be like a cable company putting all the most wanted channels in tier 3 (which require having tier 1 and 2 to get).

Yes, and how much more money! No doubt we will need the "premium" to be equal to the current set. So will upgrade to premium be $200 plus? If so, I may as well buy CS2!

CS3 upgrade???? heck I JUST got CS2 the other day and I had been using Photo Shop 6 for as long as I can remember. so I probablly wont upgrade until CS10 or CS20
also have you checked out the reseller ratings on this company, they dont have much of a track record and it could be bogus. Always be cautious when purchasing software from a company who is not a well known shop (like newegg or something)

Question: If I wait and buy the upgrade later, and get lucky to hit the grace period when the new version comes out, would I get a free upgrade on my upgrade? Or does that only work for new purchases?

Good question... I'd think you'd be eligible, but don't know for sure. Maybe a moot point, though. If you wait until you'd be within the grace period, chances are you'd have a pretty good idea of the release date if you keep your ear to the ground, and, if you can wait until the grace period, surely you could wait a few weeks longer and just get the CS3 upgrade.
