Last year was my first Christmas whee I put up a tree and the like. This year I'm putting up the tree today since I know I have the day off.

It's a little earlier than I normally am used to decking my halls, but I figure it's not going to hurt anything. Plus having the tree up kinda negates the holiday blues for me.

Today I hit a new first milestone. My first string of dead lights for the tree. The joy of racing out to the drugstore because everything else is close. Yay!

Anyone else have any first holiday alone type stories to share?

I vaguely recall my first holiday alone...it was Christmas of 1987, I had just turned 18, and was living in my first apartment and working my first job...I think I had some friends over, but I don't really remember that much about it. It must have been pretty uneventful. ;)

I do have the Black Family 2005 Christmas Tree all up and decorated though...the boys and I set it up last night. We couldn't wait until tomorrow. :)

Dang, that's early! I'm of the school that says the "correct" time to deck a tree is Christmas Eve, but I realize we are a dying breed. In fact I gave up on that position as soon as I had kids, LOL.

But the thread I'm really interested in seeing is the one where people compete for who keeps their tree up the longest, LOL. One year we had ours up until early February, but that's probably not even int he procrastinator's ballpark.

Now I'm living alone on the Cape, I don't even have anything to deck a tree WITH, so it would be prohibitively expensive to start over again. Maybe I can stand my 70-200 on end with a star pinned to the rear lens cap?

Hey, I got an idea! Everyone send me ONE ornament, and I can do a tree!

I also subscribe to setting up on Christmas eve.... but most often the week before and keeping it a bit longer..... Feburary is the longest I've kept a tree too.... and turned it into a Valentines tree decorated of course with red hearts and cupids.

My tree usually goes up on the first Saturday of December but I confess I had one tree in the house til March. I think it was the last real tree we had too...I just remember I stayed with tradition and took all the ornaments and lights off it on New Years Day but the tree managed to hang around til no needles were left on it before my husband gave in and drug it out.

As for today though...I'm in the decorating mood we are getting our first snow fall of the year.

Our tree usually went up the second week of December. My birthday is December 21st, so the tree HAD to be up by then. Mom has always been a 12 days of Christmas person, and prefers Christmas Eve tree shopping/decorating. Morse the pity she had a Christmas baby. :)

Tree usually goes down 12th night. But last year I was so lonely I left it up until beginning of February.

my first tree on my own was on a budget, but my mom had trained me to like really gorgeous (translate - expensive) trees, with great structure and space between the branches to display ornaments. so, i went to a christmas tree lot and picked a five-foot noble fir (imo, the best type of tree for hanging ornaments) that was absolutely perfect...until i was told the cost. ouch! i only had about ten dollars for a tree at the time, and my parents had always picked up the tree, so i didn't realize how much a tree would actually cost(proof that adolescents live in their own reality...i could get an awesome tree for ten bucks, really!). i told the lot owner how much i had to spend, and he looked at me, looked at the tree, got a chainsaw and cut the tree down to about three feet. and that was my first christmas tree...and my first strange experience with a man and a chainsaw.
happy turkey day, y'all,

My 2 daughters are spending T'giving with their father's family. I'll have dinner with friends later, but then am home alone for the rest of the weekend. I think I'll busy myself decking my halls and taking pics of my handy-work :)

I'll help my x-land lady set up her tree, i loved doing it last year, seeing the smile on her face after all the lights were shinning, she does it first weekend of December, so it should be anytime next weekend.
