forgive my ignorance and I thank you in advance,
two questions:
1. you have to resize every photo before you upload it right? what is the standard size you gen use to resize to?
2. what happens when/if you run out of space? are you given the option of more space for $?
ok, I said two and this isnt so much a question really but i want to verify that any photo taken with anything other than a digi is prob frowned upon, yea?
ohoh AND why do some photos not show up when uploaded?
Clearly thats a question, so three questions not two.
Many thanks for any help
Cool, thanks.
Happy shooting and that.

-Yes...go for a max. width or height of 640...any less and you will get slated in challenges. Also bear in mind that challenges have a file size max. as well.

-No.

-did you put them in your workbench area? Or mark them not for viewing?

1. Yup. The longest side can't exceed 640 pixels. It's generally a good idea to take advantage of that space though, so that's what most people resize to.
2. Unfortunately, no, there's not currently an option to buy more space. When you run out, you delete what you don't like and add more. ;) Since the photos only display at 640, make sure you're not upload huge photos since that will take up more space. Your print files are not included in your space count.
3. More than frowned upon, they're not allowed as challenge entries and will be disqualified. You're free to put any time of image in your portfolio, though.
4. Can you provide some more detail for this question? You're trying to upload to your portfolio and it's not working or what?

if you have good photos shot with film then upload em! this is a digi site but film is great to display, if its a good photo who cares about the medium it was shot on? you cant enter film photos for the challenges but aside from that i would say it's fine. Heck ive been shooting almost all film lately except for work i use digi. |

thanks for your help you guys. I really appreciate it.
These days I'm hooked on the holga and a vintage isolette I found, so it would be nice if I could put a few from those in my portfolio. As of right night I'm a bit intimdated by the whole challenge thing and the rules and all to enter any but of course when I do they will all be digi shots.
In regards to the question about the uploading, they arent exceptionally large shots, they were resized for the web previously and they appear to upload and you can see the names of them there in my portfolio, just that if you click on it, there is no visual of the image but its apparently there, taking space.

The first one is the hardest. Enter and enter often (this from someone who does not enter often). The rules, while seemingly intimidating, are rather simple and if you have any questions on legality SC will be more than happen to address your concerns (this coming from non-SC) :)
It's actually quite fun - the best part is, of course, the trash talking that goes on just before the challenge.
Sum: challenges are good clean fun that, in the end, have one goal: to learn. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You have some cool potato photos in your portfolio, you'll ribbon in under 15 challenges.
