Who'da thunk we could pull 250 posts off a poetry thread? Do you believe in miracles? Not a single critical word anywhere, if you disregard my comment that buffalo can't "roam" in a paddock, jejejeĆ¢Ā¢
This is nice...

Here is a photo that was taken by DrAchoo (Jason Friesen). This picture of his daughter caught my eye and my heart. This is the first poem I wrote on DPC. I have two daughters of my own. Jeff
"Why Baby Sleeps"
A mother's love,
A mother's grief,
A mother's joy
was incomplete.
A moments breath
was snatched away.
Now laid to rest
in a shallow grave.
A child's gift,
a gracious hand,
a yellow rose
with beauty grand.
She lays it softly
on the stone.
A quiet rememberance
for life unknown.
With an innocent wonder
her memory keeps
a youthful ponder-
Why baby sleeps.

May I please have your attention,
My mentor in youth is worthy of mention.
For after all he taught me pooh-atry's rhyme,
He taught me to.. think, think, think
and open my mind.
The funny way he tumbled down the trees.. bump.. bump..bump
after tricking the bees.
He gave me short stories of great adventures.
He gave us all the simplest of treasures.
See, it is the simple things we take for granted,
Like goofy little games and silly dreams planted.
So now I give honor to whom honor is due,
and honor my good friend Winnie-the-Pooh.

"No Evil Speaks"
Her eyes
the windows to her soul.
A simple messsage
of self control.
An idol word
her lips resist.
No malice
in her voice exists.
Censored by her silent tongue,
she tells with
quiet expression.
For in her eyes
compassion seeks
the light of when
no evil speaks.

"Desolation"
Look into the soul of a desperate man.
Nothing breaks a heart as loneliness can.
No aspirations, no hope it seems,
all blown away with shattered dreams.
Cloudy eyes of disbelief,
the mournful sting of pain and grief.
Off in the distance a vacant shell,
a broken home where affections fell.
A barren structure weathered and cold,
once sheltering warmth and love of old.
Search the land as prosperity hides,
nothing lives where desolation resides.

If anyone wants one to do:
I'll be submitting an 11x14 of this to the zoo later this month. The bear sadly died about a month after I took this. His name isn't Godot - that's just my title for it. :) I will put whatever poem gets written for him with the image for the zoo.
Thanks!

"The Homeless Plight"
Eyes never meet
in a passing glance.
Compassion rarely
has a chance.
An emotional game
of hide-n-seek.
Hidden love from
the poor and weak.
A beggars life
is never rich,
a richer life
she longs to live.
A painful loss,
a crushing blow,
what caused her stress,
we'll never know.
Unless we have
compassion's sight,
we cannot see
the homeless plight. |

Unfortunately, I don't do bears: be like cannibalism, you know? Jeff can have it, LOL.

Jeff or Robt.
If either of you have time before Christmas, I would love a poem about an adopted childs love for their adoptive mother. I was adopted as a baby (I am now 30) and would love a poem to go with this pic that I have ordered a print of and framed for Christmas for my mother.
With the holidays coming up I am sure you are both very busy so if you don't have time I completely understand.
Thanks,
Kate

Tater, this a specific request of Jeff, or can an old bear have a crack at it? 'Cuz if so, this is my next project :-)

Robert are you doing this one? Jeff |

This is another one that blows me away. I work with homeless families so this strikes deep inside me.. both the photo and the poem.
Thanks to both of you :)

"Petunias"
The basket is the glory of the yard
with petunias in full bloom.
They are the fruits of hard work,
having been carefully plucked and groomed.
The blossoms only last so long,
an array of comfort they send.
Enjoy them now while you may,
before their season's end.
