Need help-
I would like a speedlight for the holidays (even though I don't know how to use it yet) and I'm not sure what to ask for...I was looking at B&H's website and the prices are vastly different($315 vs $165). Since I don't know much about either (except the reviews I've read) I wanted to see if you guys would help me!
Are they comparable speedlights? Am I better off buying the 800 and growing into it? What are your thoughts |

I was hung up in the same debate for a while, but was just forced to make the decision as my parents were requesting my birthday/christmas wish list. I went with the 800. It's just that much better and even if I could get by without the extra power and features today, I'm sure I'm going to want it someday. |

The 800 is a more powerfull speedlight. It also offers some functions that the 600 does not, such as strobe. Most importantly the 800 can be used as a commander for several 600s. I reccommend getting the 800. Then you can add 600's later for inexpensive studio effect lighting.

The SB-800 is of course the one to get if money is no object. When you buy either speedlight, you are really buying into the Creative lighting system - which BTW is unrivalled. Hopefully you will buy more speedlights (600/800)to really benefit from it. Remember that the D70 can act as a commander for the SB600 as well. So you should get whichever you can afford now, you will hopefully end up with both models eventually. |
