What is a good not too expensive mouse to get? I know this isn't a camera related question, but I'm trying touch up photos in PSP and this mouse is driving me BONKERS! I'm about ready to rip it out and toss it out the window.
I've taken it apart, cleaned it, and it's still not working right. I think the problem is our daughter keeps removing the mousepad when she's on the computer. Either way, I need to get a new one so I can get these pics done for christmas.

Any infrared mouse is better than a ball mouse and they are pretty cheap now also.

Man, once you get used to a marble mouse, you will never ever ever go back.

definitely get one of the optical kind. no cleaning. logitech makes good ones, especially ones in the MX types. pretty cheap nowadays. i got mine for like 20 bucks.

I just bought a new mouse yesterday at Wal-Mart... MicroInnovations optical mouse, $9.97, works like a charm. Nothing special, but it has three buttons and a scroll wheel, which is all I need. :)

Agreement. My my MX 1000 cordless was $80 when I bought it though.

I don't need anything fancy. Just something that isn't jerky like mine and won't get dirty.

10 dollars sounds good lol.
Ty all for the help!

I know you are looking to go with something inexpensive, but for anyone else reading this thread who may be interested... I *highly* recommend Wacom's graphics tablets for editing work, and indeed as a mouse replacement. The only time I use my mouse anymore is for gaming, and even then, sometimes my tablet works just fine.

Wacom Technology

I bought my Intuos 6 or 7 years ago for two reasons: 1) I wanted to dabble in various paint programs a bit more naturally, and 2)I had a severely pinched nerve in my neck/shoulder from using my mouse in an awkward position, and needed something that I could hold in a neutral position. I keep the tablet in my lap, so my arms are only extended when I'm typing. Never had a pinched nerve problem again!

And no... I don't work for Wacom. :)

I couldn't live without my Logitech Trackman Trackball.

$30 from the Logitech site, probably cheaper in stores.

I just got a new mouse last month for my laptop, the PocketMouse Pro Wireless from Kensington. It's been very smooth and travels well, the USB receiver actually stows inside the mouse when packed away.

... and the best part of owning one is watching the expression of those who use my computer, but have never used a trackball before! :D

That's balls, pardon the pun :) I wouldn't give up my ps/2 ball mouse for anything. Optical mice, especially usb ones, are far less precise and smooth... sure you don't have to clean them, but if you take good care of a ball mouse you'll get much nicer results from it, and far better and more accurate response. If you get an expensive high-dpi multisensor optical mouse then you may get decent results, but you'd get the same or better for a good ball mouse for one tenth the price.

Would really disagree with that, I would never go back to a ball mouse. I have a logitec and MS Explorer mouse (work & home) and they are both very smooth and very accurate. The only optical's I've had problems with are the cordless ones - batteries always ran out too fast.

I guess you don't care about the relatively huge lag of an inexpensive optical mouse, the low resolution (about half that of a ball mouse), and the relatively very slow polling interval compared to 200hz for a ps/2 mouse, not to mention the added cpu usage of usb?

go into an electronics/computer/office store and find one you like the feel of...but don't go for the cheapest one. Spend at least $10 more than you wanted to...always worth it...

my mom went through 3 different cheap mice before she listened to me and bought a good optical. Logitech is a good route.

Yeh - I have one of these at work and find it very comfortable. Your right about watching others trying to use it!
