He must have worked to achieve the goal of getting $100 dollars (more in canadian!) to pay for 4 memberships handed out in an entertaining manner.
Unless he stole the money out of his wife's purse...
It is a popularity clique because the popular ones get to be on a fancy list that says "more people like me(my personality/my humour/live in the same county or country as me/ like taking photos of the same stuff as i do/sneds me a lot of PM/ have met at a GTG/take nice photos - ALL legit reasons to add someone as a favourite person ~ we are all photographers on this site, so person and photographer are synonymous in this situation) than you" (and according to some it is a goal we should all strive for) and those of us who are not popular enough don't get to be on that list. |

Aww, but I like it when someone calls me a blind watersnake AND a lemming in the same sentence.
Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling of achievement :) |

ROFL that's too funny. Missed those.
But the post by Scalvert was in reference to a short post by someone whose name I've already forgotten that called someone a name and told them to go away (in less nice terms) but wasn't even clear whether it was aimed at me (my post was the last one above it) or at Slippy or someone else!!!!!

Funny you'de think people who care about art and the community we have here wouldn't whine about a silly little think and be all whiny about it.
Let's make art not war.
Oh and let's not overreact to things by threatining to leave and getting all the attention to ourselves. Allright? Allright.

I'd say the point is being missed here and people are fixating on the list when that isn't really the issue at all. The issue is the mob mentality and the willingness to trample over someone else's bed of roses and scoffing at them because they see them as nothing more than some dumb plants. That is the real disease here and ironically indicative of how it is a stench the permeates throughout society. Funny thing is that we all bitch about it and yet here its applauded on heroic proportions. Petty vandalism, theft, victims of fraud, looting, and list goes on. Little sympathy is felt for victims until we become one ourselves. Some may, and have, felt that this is a betrayal of a quite validation for their accomplishments. If this was commonplace in your own community, would you idolize the perps as you do the one who instigating this fiasco. Dude is sitting in front of your house and about to run over your fence and to justify it, he is give the first four supporters a bag of nails and some fenceboards. Choose your mentors carefully and the path they lead you down.

The list is called favorite photographers, not favorite people. Just because we are all photographers does not make them synonymous. It's completely plausible to totally respect someone as a photographer and despise them as a person, or vice versa. Many of us have, in the past, gone to the top favorite photographers list in interest of finding out who the masses think is an excellent photographer, such that we might study their work, ask them advice, or just plain view some impressive images. What purpose does the list serve if it becomes a list of who can beg and bribe the most or who has the most friends? I have nothing against hijinx and humor, but there's a time and place...not everything has to be a joke. |

absolutely true
I can think of a couple of people i don't care much about who have taken a great image. Thats where i assert my favourite image choice. I could favourite every single one of thier images, but if i think non to highly of them they will never be on my fave photog list, because a photog is more than just a camera, it is the person behind the camera also.
But that is how *i* see fit to use the list and youre perfectly welcome to fave a photog you dont like, because it is not my place or anyone elses to tell you when you can and cannot click that button. |

Completely, utterly ditto.
If I love the image, it's all about the image and I'll favourite it. If I like someone's work but dislike them as a person, they won't be added to my favourite photographer list even if they have more individual images in my faves list than anyone else. That's just the way I see things. If I like lots of images and like (or don't know/ dislike) the person, they can be in my list, alongside all my mates who make up the bulk of the list.
Now it's definitely food time.

Oh my. It scares me to think that my daughter will be subjected to this mindset and that this ideology may one day govern us. That's okay, it's your right to think this way........ though it may be different........when someone runs over your bicycle. ;-) |

Well of course, humour is our savior.

Well this ideology is actually governing us all, maybe you're not aware political system is coropted in every country, especially mine.
I see what you're implying. I don't like it especially when it's coming from someone leaving the site because of a joke. I don't even own a bike.
Oh and it will be scarier when your daughter comes home to announce that she has joined the communist league of her country. Big blow on my parents.

Hey everybody, there are 429 images that need critiquing... I've decided to turn my attention to helping provide feedback for my fellow photographers and concentrate less on trying to get into a p!@#ing contest with them.... anybody with me? Let's go critique!

If you choose to be a willow in the wind and bend to whichever direction it happens to blow, that is your choice. It is a choice that has consequences which will reveal themselves to you........in time.
The bicycle issue was figurative on purpose. It evoked a response and as a matter of fact, it pissed you off. Are you more pissed off than others on this petty bicycle issue??
Communist party? Hmmmmmmmm........good choice. Or.....er......I mean....good group choice. Seems to fit well into the herd mentality. Good luck with it! |

Which herd? Oh you mean the sheeps gazing in front of our apartment, yeah I bet they're parents wished they were communists, but nah these sheeps prefer selling themselves and getting drunk.
And I'm crying over the bicycle issue. I never properly learned to ride a bike, I'm lucky to have had a tricycle when I was little.
Anyway can we go back to the main issue? Which was what? You leaving because of a pointless issue that will die in a few weeks and slip away? I guess then you'll have a miraculous return right?
