i liked it also, i think people need to keep their emotions out of the challenges..but like i've said before, people need something to complain about.

I must be weird (imagine that...what a shock) because date rape never even crossed my mind. I thought it was a good shot.

But if we keep our emotions out of the challenges (voting or taking pictures) then we are cheating ourselves. Without emotion, we can only comment on technical skills, and perhaps not even that since there has to be an internal judgement as to whether or not something is "correct" for a certain picture.
We need to use our emotions to really 'get' the photos - how does it make you feel? What does this evoke? Does this cause you to recall a particular memory? Otherwise we become basically robots in response to art, and that would be a shame.

However, I think a more apt observation is that we need to use our brains and common sense when it comes to voting on the challenges - and learn to not always go with our gut reaction, because some things are not always as they seem.

next time i'll ask you for a picture ...

Just don't drug me & rape me. Arsenic, cyanide, hemlock, etc. OK. ;-)

This thread makes me shake my head - I can see the emotional reaction to what people initially thought was a date rape scene, but had they put it back in the context of the challenge topic, they might have thought of something closer to what you intended - much like what vtruan thought.

OTOH, how many of us said they would actually vote it higher if it were a ken doll? I don't think many, so we are just commenting on the unexpected interpretation the picture held...

Well, for those who think poison isn't what is used in date rape.... GHB and roofies are the drug of choice and yes: both are POISON. I think its a good photo, neat use of making the voter think but unfortunately I don't believe date rape is a conspiracy and I don't think many of the voters think when voting.

I agree with most of the posters here, with the skull and cross bones on the bottle, it seemed blatantly obvious that it was poison to me. Never occured at all about the date rape thing. I don't know if having Ken instead would of made a difference, maybe it would be a little 'cuter' and less cynical? I don't know.

But I think a key thing here is as someone said, this was a 'conspiracy' themed challenge, I would expect to see, well, conspiracies. If I thought that kind of thing would disturb me, I wouldn't go voting on it and disturb myself.

Note that many legitimately-prescribed pharmaceuticals nevertheless (deservedly) carry "Poison" warnings.
