Some of the interesting things to do in Savannah that I have found online:

Walking Tours:

The Ghost Walk
Historic Architecture Walk
War in Georgia

Marine Education Center and Aquarium
Trolley Tour
Telfair Muesum of Art

There are a ton of other things... these just caught my eye as I was browsing: //www.savannah.com :)

//www.savannahgeorgia.com/convention.htm < -- possible lodging ideas - ... there is a comfort suites downtown - or even the days suites in the historic area ... if the price is right that could be an option ... and maybe we could rent a meeting room or something for an initial meet up :)

i also sent away for a tourist welcome booklet :)

Did this happen? I couldn't go but I was just wondering.

I don't think it ever happened. The discussion continued in this thread. John couldn't make it, and I don't think anyone else stepped up to take over the logistics.

Actually, I called and got some reservation information setup, talked to the Chamber of Commerce about getting us tour discounts and posted several times asking for people to give me some feedback so I could try to make tentative plans regarding number of attendees. I got no responses.

If anyone is interested in getting together at some point in the southeast, I'll be happy to do some legwork/phonework to help setup reduced rate reservations and scenic tours at whatever locale we pick.

This sounds great! I wasn't a user on this site back then but would've jumped at the chance if it was do-able. I'm always jealous when I read threads on other get togethers. :-)

This is the first I have seen this thread too,
I like the idea of Savannah. I am not to far from charleston only a couple of hours drive.

Dollywood, never been there.
Gatlinburg is better in the fall, been to some places there but its been awhile.
I would just about be game for any of the places mentiond even Tennessee, if I can just get a babysitter now....
Or maybe even ride from the southern connector or I85 then I could leave the husband at home with youngens.....

It would depend on where and when, but I would be interested

-edit- this would give me another reason to drop $1300 on a new camera too, lol = )

OK. Then let's open this up for discussion again.

Anyone in the southeast interested in scheduling an extended weekend get together. Maybe Thursday thru Sunday? You come to whatever part you want. I know Savannah would give us beaches (some of the neighboring beaches have those rolling dunes, too). About 45 minutes south of Atlanta is Callaway Gardens with low, rolling hills, a butterfly house and tons of rural scenery.

I live just north of the GA state line in TN but would be willing to travel in SC, GA, AL or TN for such a meeting if we can get a decent turnout and have some fun together.

With my schedule right now, it would be tough, but I might be interested, depending on when and where.

Should we try for sometime in the next few months (Sticky southern summers) or schedule it a year out again, maybe for next spring sometime?

We're expecting baby number two in November, so really the where doesn't matter so much as the when. :) All those places are within good driving distances for me. I've heard Callaway Gardens is nice, though I've never been there.
