I'm looking to transfer to a photography school as soon as I am done with my general ed. I only know of one, Brooks Institute of Photography. I've been doing some research online but haven't found too much. Is there anyone who is going/went to a photography school or a univeristy with a really good photography major? Or anyone who just knows of a school? Thanks a bunch for your help!

Im looking into the same thing these are 4 that i've heard of
1.Brooks Institute... Santa Barbara, CA
2.Academy of Art University... San Francisco, CA
3.Rochester Institute of Technology...Rochester, NY
4.School of Visual Arts...New York, NY
To me Brooks sounds great but it comes with a big price tag and located in one of the most exspensive cities in the world. Im hoping to get scholarships to be able to pay for it

I think you can't find a better school than School of Visual Art in NY, but I think it's the most expencive to, and the hardest to be accepted at ;)
like, you have to be the principals son, take pictures like Bresson, and be a wiz like Einstein to get in...

If you can get your hands on the March/April '05 issue of Picture magazine, they reviewed between 10 and 20 photography schools in the US. Not very in-depth, but at least said what each specialized in and provided contact info. Unfortunately, their website (picturemagazine.com) doesn't seem to have any archives, but their "links" page has a links to a bunch of schools. |

I don't know if you are looking at just four year institutes, but the New England School of Photography looks awesome and thats where i'm looking at going next fall. Its a two year program and they have like 10 different types of photography you can major or minor in. their site is www.nesop.com if you're interested |

I am student at Hallmark Institute of Photography. We are having an Open House in October. www.hallmark.edu . the school is awesome, we learn how to shoot in medium format (mamiya 645afd II), large format, digital, p&s, as well as business training, technical aspects, artistic aspects, oh and its a 10 month program. any questions? just ask me, i can tell you all the other things the school has to offer (like 90 leaf apptus digital backs - 17-22 mgpx - on our campus alone - //www.dpreview.com/news/0509/0509094leaf_mamiya22mp.asp ). hope this helps |
