Fortunately, there are so many users out there that there will always be sufficient demand to provide backwards compatibility. I doubt there is much cause for concern. |

The article is slightly dated. Adobe is commited to solving this problem with the DNG format. I've been saving a copy of my NEFs & ORFs to DNG for the future.
That being said I'm all for open source for any software application. 99% of the time the end user benefits. |

I'm sure Microsoft Access has "so many users" too, but you wouldn't believe the time and effort I had to put into getting data out of an Access 4 database at work.
Others have had similar problems with old Word and Excel files.
