Just a quick question, What is involved when you get a lens serviced? What do they do? Price AU$, can it be done yourself ect. Just interested any info would help thanks.

What is wrong with the lens that it needs service? That will largely determine what is done and what is charged. Normally, no service beyond cleaning the outside surfaces is advisable for the end user.

I was looking through ebay and came across a few lenses that said they had some small amounts of fungus and would require a service before use.

Fungus can be cleaned, but once present it is very difficult to ensure that it does not come back. Worse, there's the risk of fungal spores migrating to other equipment stored with the affected lenses. If the fungal "infection" is minor, it will usually clean off completely, but if it has been allowed to persist for some time, it may etch the coatings on some lenses. In this case, the affected elements would need to be replaced.
I would recommend that, no matter how temptingly they are priced, that you steer clear of lenses that have fungus. It's a sure bet that they have ben stored in poorly-controlled conditions, and if that's true, they probably have been less than well taken care of in other respects as well.
