I think maybe a 6 or 7 from me. To explain: It's a great shot, with excelent focus and clarity. The angle is nice with the ball in the lower left. Nice cropping and framing. While it is technically well done, it's not out of the ordinary. Not much color or anything that makes this anything other than a photo of a disco ball. I think that if you could have somehow gotten more reflections, or brighter reflections on the ceiling, that might have made a huge difference. Don't get me wrong. A 6/7 score from me is a good, better than average score. I think you should have gone for it!

Did you fire the flash on that shot? If so, I would have NOT done that... :)

I agree with Heather. On my first pass, I would have scored it a 5 (average) and maybe bumped it later to a 6. It lacks that "something" that makes it pop out. Now, if you had used a colored light , ??

I agree with jimmsp... I think the lighting is a bit too plain. Good composition. I would use more light to create more texture in the background and adjust its contrast. 6 for me :-)

I like the composition, and subject. A little color, perhaps reflected in the mirrors would add some interest. I think I'd have rated it a 6.

I entered in time, but I am sure I entered the wrong one.
Here are 2 outtakes...I think I shoulda picked one of them. But I saw a problem or two so decided on the one that can't get past 4.9! LOL

I'd really love some comments. Thanks

Sorry... I just can't figure out how to post the image rather than a link. I tried.

Please explain!!!
I switched off all lights and than flashed it! I didn't know, how better to this (alone with only two hands, one hand at the camera, climbing on a chair) without too much effort and without falling down, breaking my nose...;o)
Anyone with better ideas?
Also how to color it?!?
I thought about it, but as I said, I've got only two hands... It's not so easy to get the ball AND the reflections on the ceiling...
Who did do this before me and can give any advice?!?
However, thanks for the comments and greetings,
Martina - KAOS.

Martina, What kind of image editing software do you use? Most allow you to play around with colors. Another option to add color might be light a strand of christmas lights to reflect, or a couple of lamps with colored bulbs. Do you have a tripod? Another idea I have to add color, would be to maybe use a few flash lights propped up with color over the lights, like cloth or paper. I don't really know, just brain storming. Some of my own best ideas come from brain storming. Some pretty silly ideas have turned out good. They evolve.
Good luck Martina! :-)
P.S. As for climbing on the chair...oh please do be careful!

Thanks for the good advice, Grayce! I also do brainstorming - I tried the painted light bulb, but it didn't work out well... I'll try again!
Greetings,

martina, i like discokugel4 a lot. the colors on the ceiling are really cool, and there's some good colorful reflections in the discoball itself.

also like puzzling2 in the other gallery. i love jigsaw puzzles, but have never seen one that's all one color and going round in circles. great subject to photograph! :)
