I noticed that when shooting completely manual, that I was able to use Center Weighted Metering. Is there a way to change that?

Sorry Jeremy, what do you mean?
What do you want to change? Being able to use Center Weighted metering?
You don't want to be able to select Center Weighted Metering?
Why?
I would love to help but I think I don't understand the question. |

Not to my knowledge. Not according to page 84 of the 300D manual.

When you are using Av or Tv, the metering mode is automatic and set to Evaluative. When I shot full manual + manual focus, it switched to Centerweighted. I was just curious if in full manual mode was it changable.

As Beagleboy says, I'm pretty sure you can't change it.

No, no control of the metering mode. It's set automatically based on the shooting mode.

Ahh, the 300d...a great little camera until you realize it's making a lot of decisions for you!
I still like it, but things like this annoy me. And don't get me started on the AI Servo focus only available in sports mode (I think)!
Have there been any other hacks to allow some of these things? I mean, the functionality is in the camera, it's just a matter of being able to use it in different modes. |

Yes, not changeable and I don't recommend the hacks!
Evaluative only throughout - apart from manual where it's centre-weighted.
But you know that now - I was too late!

The undutchables hack works on this - it works better, but still not 100%. I like to be able to force One Shot focus mode, as i have a habit of recomposing and the camera sees the movement and goes into AI servo when i don't want it! With the hack you get RAW in sports more...not sure about ISO options in sports mode, but 400 works.
As to RichT8496, why not? I have not heard one bad word about the hacks. Not one. Not once.

Simply because it invalidates warranty and I'm boogered if I'm going to invalidate the warranty on a £800 camera! I'd rather have done my research first, realised it didn't have decent metering and then bought a 10 or 20D!

Do you have a link to some hacks? |
