Hi. I'm heading out on a trip into areas that don't have a regular power supply and would like to get a cheap laptop for backing stuff up. 14" screen (all I could ever need for this purpose), 1Ghz (faster than I would ever need), and something that has a long battery life.
Has anyone here been in a similar situation? What did you get?
Since it's only for backing up images over the course of the trip I figure I should be able to get something for a decent price, especially since I don't need anything too fast or with a lot of RAM. Thanks. |

You might consider an X-drive or iPod or Archos Jukebox or similar device -- essentially a 5-20GB hard drive with inputs and batteries. This would save you money, if you can wait until you get home to edit the pictures. |

you can't go straight from Camera to iPod...
I would suggest a cheap dell. I think the are selling inspirons for less than 900$

i bought a compaq for the same purpose. i did get one with a burner so i could easily burn my images onto cds. paid $850 after rebates at circuit city. if you just want storage, you might look into those other devices which i think cost $3-400. |
