Hehehe - I do that periodically myself.
I do save a copy of each in similar named folders on my PC, then can re-upload fresh & clean as I want.
Did it this past week and lost 140+ favs in the process. |

I lost about 10 faves I had selected. Thanks. I would never delete a fav. They are hard to come by for someone like me. Seems like some get to big and forget about the little man.

I do it repeatedly as well. Unfortunately I do it on the PC as well. |

Ouch!
I hope that wasn't directed at me - nothing could be further from the truth!

There must be an easier way. How much space can favs photo take? I always get a funny feeling in my stomach when I hear about erasing a port. |

For me it was not about space. Just did not like them anymore. |

Gave me a funning feeling too that people just don't care when you selct there photo as a fav. I personally would cherish that. I have since deleted all the fav photos I have selected. |

Okay: this is about cleansing. Is just that I had some data lost about seven months ago and it took me three months to realize i lost about 5 images, that is their ps files. And so much work. |

cleansing is not a problem but just deleting them because you don't like them anymore AFTER someone has taken the time to either comment or fav your photo is IMO downright rude. I have just deactivated my prints and have moved everything to my workshop that way the people that admired my work enough to fav it or take the time to comment on it can still few it from time to time. Other that that I have unselected all my fav potos and am out.

Sorry you feel that way James.
Rude was never an intent.
Thoughtless was probably a better word to describe it.
For what it's worth, at some point people get tired of looking at the same thing. I for one do. I look back on stuff I may have liked in the past, but now look at it and think differently.
I look back at many of the pics I have had in my portfolio and realized I was only trying to please someone else or trying to mimic someone's style. When I get a fav based on those criteria, and realize it down the road, it becomes a bit of a farce.
When I am doing my best to please everyone around me, without truly pleasing myself first, then I have failed.
When I feel I get to a point like that I spring clean, and put back what I want. It is MY porfolio afterall.
To anyone reading this that feels offended by my thoughtless actions of removing images you took the time to comment on, or select as a favorite, I am sorry.
Personally, if everyone that has selected me as a favorite would take the time to go back and unselect me, I would be thrilled to get off that damned top 15 list and make room for some real talent.
Poofs.

Today I was thinking about clearing my complete portfolio but didn't want to delete any favorites. I don't have many favorites so I decided it would be best to make a folder and name it favorites and place them there. Then hide the folder. No one other than the people that has selected as a favorite could view them. They would not loose there favorite picture they selected and I would not loose a favorite which is hard to come by.
I still trying to figure out who dropped me as a favorite photographer. That was an ouch when I saw it drop....

I deleted all my portfolio images that were taken with the Fuji Finepix s7000 once I got the Ds (except challenge images, those are there to stay).
I don't regret it a bit. Most of my comments and favs were on challenge entries anyway. I did lose some, but eh.. whattayagonnado.
I saw it as a shift in my photography and photographic life, and wanted my portfolio to reflect that.
Also, I'm stunned that someone would actually consider it rude for a photographer to remove images with comments and favs on them. Yes, a person spent some time and energy to give those comments and favs, and I can guarantee the photographer was honored and pleased to get them, but like life, the world, and everything.. DPC is a dynamic site.. ever changing. Things come, and things go. This includes images that have to go to make room for new works.. images that have to go because the photographer no longer feels they represent their best and/or favorite work.. images that go simply because the photographer has, as BradP stated, simply seen enough of them. If you like a certain photographer's work a lot, and notice that some of your favorites of theirs have gone missing.. why not go and gander at their portfolio and give them a bunch more comments, and see what new things have replaced the stuff you loved. If you loved it enough, you'll remember it.. why not PM them and see if they'll send you a low-res copy so you can view it now and again (or see if they have a link to it on a personal web-site)
There are a lot more positive ways of thinking about things than just labelling someone as rude simply because they feel, as is their right, that it's time for a change.
Personal tastes change.. this applies to the photographer, and the viewer.. so instead of mourning what is lost, discover what is new.

Ah Brad. Allow me a word. You are very talented and you are in possession of that illusive artistic photographer's eye. It is like something that lay latent in you and then out of nowhere it popped up.
The golden touch, and this you have already proven.
Now, you may be going through what is known as an evolving stage and all artist go through this. There is no point in arguing whether our artistic efforts are sublime or inferior. It is not a question the artist is in a position to answer for himself. The moment that we claim we are the best artist, then we need to surpass ourselves and how many times can we do this.
You are right, we eventually wish to find ourselves and create that which we truly enjoy. This has come rather quick in your case and this spells a maturity. It opens the doors to the next stage.
However, it is the early efforts that we have for comparison. Look, I am the eternal student and at any moment I will revert to a totally different style. I have explored many styles and some have given me a lot of satisfaction. I am not here to make a masterpiece, instead to explore another self expression. I do not care how lame the end result is, I am simply compelled to let the next idea roll. For what purpose?
That is the clincher. I do it like I practice Zen. Here you take a way of life and expect nothing. My photography is Zen, I expect nothing. Like you, i enjoy the moment, but I never take myself seriously. This is what keeps us free.
So yes, you do have talent, there is no way a coincidence will have brought you all the accolades and ribbons you have won. Of course, you can relate much better and this is where you are at. The changing winds and the muse are greasing you up and I look forward to your future work. |

i got dumped 3 times as a fave fotog today. big deal. My camera still works and last I checked it's my perogative what I choose to upload or delete from my own portfolio.
Maybe more than one person is taking their bats and balls and going home.
Relax, y'all. this is just a game. :)

Yes, I know it's not a big deal, but you can't help but wonder (and worry) if you've offended someone ... I do see it fluctuate, but that seemed extreme (unless someone was dumping all their favorites, hence my question). |

A strange thread, this one. Not sure I get it, but I will just throw out there the fact that I like to add a bunch of different photogs and pics to my favs one day, then go back and remove them randomly just to see the resulting activity in the forums.
hee hee hee - I am just kidding! But now that I think of it, it would be entertaining. Pedro is right on - don't take it seriously - from what I see, those who make a huge deal out of getting picked as a favorite, also take it personally if they are removed. People shouldn't become so dependent on others' approval, IMO.
edit: What the...?? I just lost six fav's since posting this! LOL

I wouldn't be able to do a major delete on my stuff until I have properly cleaned my spirit.
If my spirit was impure, then I would be blind to the ones I wanted to keep and accidently delete them.
I need a shot of whiskey.
