Hey. I was searching through this flea market today, and saw a soligor lens on display. I took some pictures and headed home for some searching on it. Nothing came up.
Does anyone have any idea, what this lens is worth, and what cameras it fits?
The description said "92, Soligor 2.8/28mm wide angle lens. thread mount (asahi etc.)"
pictures in here: //koti.mbnet.fi/uuslehto/img/soligor28mm/
EDIT: oh, and is there a way to use it on my 300D?

It looks like it might be M42 mount. This is the screw mount used on Pentax and some others. It's often referred to as "Pentax screw mount" but it actually was first developed by another company, can't remember which right now.
If it is M42, it can easily be adapted to Canon EOS cameras with a $20 adpater ring.
If the aperture works and is oil-free, and the glass is in good shape with minor or no dust/scratches and NO fungus, try getting it for $50 or less. I recently bought a 50/1.4 M42 lens for that price.
I know nothing about the quality of the lens, but I suspect it's not bad at all, and possibly quite good. Could be a cheap experiment.

Soligor was an accessory lens manufacturer, about the quality equivalent of Vivitar today. It was at some point bought and owned by (I believe) a holding company named "AIC". AIC also bought Miranda camera company (a Japanese manufacturer that was one of the early entrants in the film SLR category, being the first Japanese camera with an eye-level pentaprism) and from that time the fates of Soligor and Miranda became linked. When AIC went belly-up, so did the companies. I believe (but am not sure) that Vivitar bought Soligor for pennies on the dollar.
The M42 mount (the so-called "pentax mount) was originally the Miranda mount, I believe.
As to value, from what I can see, 30-50 dollars for a decent copy.
Robt.

schweet.. the price on it was 14e ($17-18)
Need to get that M42 adapter anyway.. Thinking of buying the 8mm Peleng or 16mm Zenitar
The flea market place is closed, but i'll go back tomorrow and buy it.. If nothing else, i can try selling it for unreasonable prices in finland.
What other cameras does it fit? Leica, possibly?

egh! just noticed from the photos, that the lens extends rather far from the mount itself.. Could there be a possibility for the 300D mirror to hit it? Luckily the 300D has a rather small mirror.. wonder if it'll be enough
I'll do more precise measurements tomorrow, to know exactly how far it extends. |

It's possible... I know some of the old retrofucus lenses did extend quite a ways. Keep in mind that the adapter will eat up some of that extension. Measure the extension and post back, I'll measure the adapter thickness and extension of the screw-mount lenses I have...

Hi,
I have a M42 mount SLR camera (non digital) a Praktica (german made), the mount was sometimes called Praktica mount or pentax mount (as stated above).
It's possible to get an adapter for M42 mount to EF mount. Just search ebay.com, you will find it.
But, I must say I'm not totally convinced that this is a M42 mount, well the mount it self might be, but the part that extends through the mount part is not as the usual M42, and would not fit onto my cameras, as it would break the mirror. (I also have a yashica that has M42 mount)
well you might want to compare it to this page :

hope it helps,

Thanks for the info on this one. I'm heading to the store any minute now to buy it. We'll see if it's an M42. If doesn't work out, at least it'll make a nice display piece in my collection. Can't go wrong with 14 euros. |

Alrighty then. I measured the the threads, and indeed they are 42mm.
The rear focusing lens sticks out about 11m and 8.8mm in the opposite ends of focus.

Could that hit the mirror of 300D?
EDIT: ARGH! the measurements in the picture are supposed to be the other way around... stupid me..

The thickness of the adapter is 6.85mm. On my Peleng fisheye, the distance from the adapter seating surface rearward to the end of the rear element is 8.4mm. I know this one works fine, but that Soligor seems to stick out significantly further. Hmmmm.

Doesn't sound too good. Is there anyone with a measurable 300D? I don't fancy opening up mine. I'm a neurotic dust avoider. |

NOOO... The damn adapter doesn't fit.
Actually. it seems, that the lense doesn't fit it. The threads are both 42mm, BUT the thread thickness isn't the same. The adapter has thicker threads, than the lens.
pics: //koti.mbnet.fi/uuslehto/img/soligor28mm/wtf.jpg and //koti.mbnet.fi/uuslehto/img/soligor28mm/wtf2.jpg
i looked at some lenses on eBay, and they seem to have threads fitting to the adapter i have. This one for example. //stanware.digoxy.com/images/ptx06/tak55-5.jpg
