What would be the main categories and sub categories under which a photo should be evaluated?

Eg.
1. Focus
a. Clarity
b. Dof

2. Frame
a. Cropping
b. Subject placement
c. Background

3. Balance
a. Composition
b. Use of Color / b&w

4. Exposure
a. Lighting
b. Contrast
c. Reflections
d. Shadows
e. Saturation

5. Emotional/Observational
a. Relevance
b. Mood
c. Impact
d. Originality
e. Motivating

These are what I have been able to figure thus far from various sources.

Who agrees/disagrees with its formulation and what would be your alternatives?

It's not official or something you can quantify but I think it helps to be from Iceland.

Thats a very cold remark. Better from down south where a warm heart is helpfull.

Just a joke I hope you understand?

Your list is quite accurate and covers pretty much all the ground that I look for in an image. Whether they meet the challenge or not is a major issue of course.

Hence my placing the relevance of meeting the challenge as a sub category (Emotional/Observational).

However the reality is also to be considered.

If any photographer was to do an assigenment for a client and he/she cannot comply with the order/request/challenge they will simply not be paid. Why should they be considered for a vote. Now it sounds like I come from further south (antartica).

no much jargons and systematic approach for me.
i load the photo completely, had a 1st impression, wait for few more seconds, take a second take and if i get no "feeling", i pass with a low score. if i like what i see, i leave a remark and vote high. no point giving a high score to a photo i dont like, even if its technically perfect, right? just my 2 cents

So on your first look, what is it that moves you? If it were an abstract challenge would you look for the same "feeling" as you would say family.

Try defining that "feeling".

But Mr Shadow, I'd bet that all the things on that list strike your subconcious in that split second, scan as well. Most of them anyway. The important ones???

pawdrix, gprinsloo - oh a photo, lets see, WHAT IS IT? oh, its abstract, they are just patterns. so do i like the patterns? I do? high vote.

its what i'm suppose to see in the photo. if its a picture of a ball, then pls tell me why i would like to see the ball? are there enough details on the ball to keep me looking beyond the initial 10 seconds? wow, a photo of an ordinary ball but from such a unique perspective! like it! another high vote.

what i do not like - staged photo of human emotions. they usually turn out pretty fake and so-acted. if i cannot tell its an acted model, you'd be getting high scores from me yet again.

EDIT: typo
