seems like the entire right half of the shot is wasted. the bright spot doesn't help.
the subject looks like he is pointing out of the frame, which looks odd. i think just shifting to the left a few degrees would have helped tremendously. |

It looked staged.
How could you have made it better? It depends...are you trying to convey a feeling? What made you compose it this way and what effect were you trying to achieve?

I really disagree with that strongly, however. How is it wasted? It's part of the composition. Obviously, it's not meant to show his surroundings, just a slight glance of what may be around. The wall gives a feeling of being close, but shows exactly how far away the camera (or viewer if you will) is.
edit: the more I think about it...the more upset your statement makes me. Wasted? That's insane. That just portrays the closed-mindedness everyone is complaining about.
tip: just don't enter it in a challenge, or you will get eaten by the 'rule-followers.' You know...the guys that will give you a 3 if you didn't follow the rule of thirds.

The picture has been turned CW, so he is actually laying on his back. Maybe some cropping but other than that Nice Picture.

| is it easy to see that hes on his back and the image is rotated? i saw it in a book and it looked so cool it just kind of popped into my head when he and i were waiting for a bus. |

dude, i don't know what your problem is with me. the guy asked for opinions and i gave one. it wasn't a personal attack and it had nothing to do with you. |

I think its a really cool shot that works. It may be a little soft, but I like the composition! Good lighting, and a nice all around feel!

Right side Wasted or not...this would have been a far better wider crop than the tall crop, as it appears the gentleman seems to be crowded by the left edge with no room to stretch.

OH my goodness. I'm sharring my opinion...prompting you for a more open-minded response. Never did I say you were wrong...I wouldn't say that.
To clarify, I said I strongly disagreed with your statement. Why not go further with your critique at that point? Why just stop and accuse me of having a problem with you?
Apparently, I'm being attacked by site council for sharring my opinion. Again, never did I say anyone's opinion was wrong...if you think I did, please go back and re-read...and maybe offer the photographer some advice instead of attacking me and accusing me of saying things that I clearly did not.

I think that just flipping the photo makes a HUGE difference. It feels unnatural with the wall on the right side. My eyes follow the shot better with it oriented in this manner :

| I *think* it's because most of us have a tendency to run left to right across the photo - with the wall on the right, the shot comes to a very abrupt stop... |
