I just entered my first contest here, and it was requested that I submit my original image for overview. I find this a good practise in contests, but I would like to know why exactly my photo was pulled out for checking. Is there a way to find this out?

I would hazard a guess that perhaps it is due to the fact that someone asked for it to be reviewed.....

Someone may think you have went beyond the editing rules. When people request a photograph for DQ they are just wanting it verified that it is within the rules. I wish it would not say "Recommend this photograph for disqualification" but say "Recommend this photograph for verification". Don't take offense at the DQ request, just send the original. Hope this helps.

Someone probably requested a DQ on your shot - possibly because they decided it looked altered beyond basic editing. DQ Requests are anonymous but if I DQ request I tell the photographer and explain why I though as such.

It's no big deal, if your photo is incredible and people think it's too good to be true you can merely submit your original with unaltered EXIF and a little caption appears beneath your shot that says, "This photo has been validated." Invariably this means a better score for you as although people are meant to vote normally when suspicious of shots that look over-altered the human subconscious is a strange thing.

Good luck with you first challenge and welcome to DPC :)

someone requested it and someone on sc decided it was a valid request.

you never find out the reason in the request.

the answers you've gotten so far are correct. we only request proof for the top 5 finishers of a challenge or in the event of a disqualification request.

not all DQ requests result in a request for proof. the SC votes on each one and decides as a group the images for which the original is needed.

if you've stayed within the rules, there's no problem :)

Ahh, I had no problem with the request...would just like to have known why. But if I cant, oh well. I submitted original.
