| does anyone use Straight EF lens with rebelXT? any problems? |

I'm not sure what you mean by straight lens? All EF lenses work with your camera.

| i think he means only use EF lenses and not any EF-S lenses |

| ALL EF lenses workes with the Rebel XT, EF or EF-S, but the EF-S will not work with other cameras than the Rebel and 20D |

What lens is it that is giving you troble? There may be some third party lenses built for the EF mount that are not compatible. But all Canon branded EF lenses should mate well with your XT, along with the vast majority on non-Canon EF lenses, and all EF-S lens.
